Abhishek Bachchan co-owned Chennaiyin FC have signed former AC Milan player and Italian legend, Alessandro Nesta. Nesta is expected to join Chennaiyin FC on 5th of December, after playing a ‘legends’ match in Bangkok. The Italian has been signed as a replacement to Valencia Mendoza, who was ruled out of the Super League following a hamstring injury in Chennaiyin’s match against FC Pune City.
Widely considered to be one of the best center backs of his time and also as one of the greatest defenders ever. Nesta was best known for his artistic tackles and tight marking on opponents. He is a four-time Serie A Defender of the Year and a four-time member of the annual UEFA Team of the Year. In 2004 he was named as one of the Top 125 greatest living footballers as part of FIFA’s 100th anniversary celebration. He was a member of the Italian national side that won the 2006 World Cup.
Nesta last plied his trade for MLSai??i??s Montreal Impact in 2013 where he helped the team qualify for the playoffs for the very first time in its history and thereafter, announced his retirement.
Alessandro Nesta would be one of the many Italians plying their trade in the Indian Subcontinent, most notably Alessandro del Piero and Marco Materazzi. With the signing of Nesta, Chennaiyin has cemented their already resolute defense. Materazzi could partner Nesta in the heart of defense, and if this happens that this center-back pairing would be more than difficult to break.
Chennayin FC currently sit on top of the Super League table with nineteen points.
