India would be playing a historic football series against arch rival Pakistan at Bengaluru football stadium on 17th and 20th of August. This is part of preparation for the squad ahead of the Asian games. A lot would be at stake for both the nations in the series despite it being labelled as part of the preparation. We look at the five Indian players who could be decisive factors in the matches against Pakistan.
Sunil Chhetri
Sunil Chhettri has been by far only player who has been consistent for the national team. India has failed to find a player of his calibre over the last few years. His inclusion in the Asia games squad would certainly lift the moral of the young players in the team.
The India captain had been in sensational form over the last 12 months, he has been consistent for his club as well as national teams. He has come from nowhere to rescue the team from the losing situations. India lack goal scorers and he have been a sole player who has provided the goals for the team. Even on the exposure tour of the Czech Republic the captain was only among the goals where he scored all the three goals scored by team India. His presence on the field against arch rivals Pakistan would be enough to put a fear in the opponents’ minds and raise the moral of the young team India.
Rowlin Borges
Sporting Clube de Goa has provided maximum numbers of the players to the Asian games squad rightly so because of their usage of youth players in I-League. Rowlin Borges is one among them who have been granted a place in the squad. The midfielder could play in any position in the midfield and hence make him a perfect player to have in any squad. The precise passing and ability to break an opponent attack makes me an excellent player to have in the team.
The midfielder had a good last season with the Flaming Orange, it was expected that the lanky midfielder would get a look at sooner or later. His ability to read the game and dictate the pace of the game would come handy against Pakistan in the upcoming friendlies. He would have look to receive the ball and spread the balls in the wings. His through balls would be one to watch out and he is expected to keep forward busy throughout the 90 minutes of the game.
Alwyn George
India always lacked player who could have been perfect number 10. The national team never had a player who could dictate the game on his own. According to many pundits Alwyn George has the capability to fill the void of the number 10 in the Indian football.
The attacking midfielder was not having the best of last season and was dropped from this club side on many occasions. He would look to put behind poor form of last season and would look to put up a good performance in upcoming matches against Pakistan. He has all the ingredient to be player of the match and lead India to the victory. He might not get a start if head coach Wim Koverman decided to start Sunil Chettri behind the striker.
Pranoy Haldar
Pranoy Haldar is not a player who would give you feeling of jumping from your seat, but he is among those cultured midfielders who would make sure he gives his 100% every time he walk on the field. The Dempo defensive midfielder has played really well for his club
The midfielder has played in various age groups teams of India and his experience of playing two full seasons in I-league would come handy. He would be a good support for a relatively weaker defence. His partnership with other centre midfielder would be key for the team against Pakistan. He would prefer to stick back and help defense in breaking down the attacks. He is a key figure in the middle of the park and would certainly have a huge role to play in the matches against Pakistan.
Narayan Das
Narayan Das has been find of last season for the national team. The attacking full back had an excellent season with his new club Dempo sports club last season. The amazing performance for the club in the I-league earned him a cap for the national team. The full back is known for his attacking intent and his experience for playing for senior team would come handy against Pakistan. He would be one to watch during the match, Pakistan would be on their toes while handling this player. He will have to show extra responsibility in the defence because the defence lacks the experience of playing at this level and can be susceptible in a pressure situation.
