Real Madrid goalkeeper Iker Casillas is willing to consider his future at the Spanish capital once his contract expires.
Iker Casillas might be going through one of the most trying times in his career but Spainai??i??s poster boy remains optimistic regarding his career and believes that he can continue playing till the age of 40.
Talking to a Radio station, Casillas spoke about the pressure that is involved while playing for a club like Real Madrid and how he has effectively dealt with it since his dAi??but.
“Playing for Real Madrid from such a young age means people are constantly talking about you. And with social media that’s even more the case. It’s a big responsibility and I try to do things as best I can. You have to try to be calm and collected”. – The Real Madrid goalkeeper said.
Playing second fiddle to Diego Lopez since January 2013, Iker has been relegated to the bench by Mourinho and then successively by Carlo Ancelotti in the present campaign. Though Ancelotti has decided to play Iker for the Copa del Rey and the Champions League fixtures, lack of regular game time has also put Casillasai??i?? starting spot for Spain in contention.
Much has been written about Casillasai??i?? future at Real Madrid and speculation is rife regarding a possible move in the Summer after losing favour at Real Madrid. However, the Club captain has assured that he does want to finish his career at Santiago Bernabeu but believes that there will come a time when that will not be possible. The World-Cup winning Spaniard believes that he can go on to play till the age of 40 if he takes care of his health.
“I can play on until I’m 40. If you look after yourself as a goalkeeper, you can carry on until that age. I’d love to be able to keep playing for Real Madrid until I’m 40, but a time will come when that’s not possible. I’ll consider my future at Real when my contract expires.
The Spaniard has played only 15 games so far this season and this lack of regular match-fitness has affected his starting position for Spain. As the World Cup draws near, Iker knows it will be difficult to convince Del Bosque of his ability as he continues to sit on the Bernabeu bench. However he has been called up by the manager for the international friendly agaisnt Italy for which he thanked the manager.
