Paulo Dybala is a wanted man. The Palermo striker is attracting interest from all over Europe, especially from the Premier League. The 21 year old has been linked with a big-money moves to big English clubs that include Manchester United, Liverpool and most notably, Arsenal.
The Gunners have so far not enjoyed the brightest of start to the Premier League. Regular injuries, and often times over reliance on Alexis Sanchez in front of goal, has resulted in the North London club not doing as well as one would expect them to. Danny Welbeck has not been as prolific as Arsene Wenger would have hoped, and Olivier Giroud has just come back into the squad after a long time on the sidelines.
Therefore, it comes as no surprise that Arsenal were rumored to be looking elsewhere. The winter transfer window is not too far from now andAi??Italian newspaperAi??TuttosportAi??confirmed in its report that Arsenal are ready to offer 31.6 million pounds or 42 million euros for the signature of Paulo Dybala (while Manchester United and Liverpool were also said to be keeping tabs on the player).
Dybala has scored 6 goals in 13 Serie A games, and has been the bright spot in Palermo’s disappointing campaign so far. His pace, movement and skill on the ball is what is particularly impressive.
When big clubs are said to be paying around 30m GBP for a 21 year old, obviously the player is put under a lot of spotlight. Dybala has commented on these links, and it is interesting that he has specifically mentioned Arsenal in those comments.
“To know that someone like that thinks highly of me fills me with pride,” said the Argentine
“I can’t deny that going to Arsenal and playing in the Premier League would be great, but at the moment I’m a Palermo player.
Different news stories keep coming out, but my thoughts are only occupied by Torino at the weekend.Ai??All goal is to stay up, I can’t allow myself to be distracted from that.”
Arsenal would definitely be boosted, and intrigued, by these comments, and the fact that Dybala is even thinking of a possible move, and has especially mentioned the London club, puts them in a good position.
THT Verdict- Unlikely
It is not news that media houses get hungry at the sight of quotes that make for good stories. While Dybala spoke about a move, it was because he was possibly questioned on the links. The player did the right thing by saying that he is currently focused on his career at Palermo. There is no doubt that Arsenal would a bit better about their position in the quest for the player after reading these comments, but this doesn’t really mean anything. Moreover, spending 31m on a 21 year old is not a regular occurrence and Wenger would be cautious about spending that kind of some. For Dybala, perhaps it is a little bit early for a move of this magnitude. He would benefit much more from regular game-time, and his chances at making it into the Argentina national team for the upcoming Copa America would also be better playing every week, something that doesn’t look likely at a move to Arsenal, or any of the clubs mentioned, right now.
