Frank Lampard took a break from his World Cup preparations to sort out his transfer move.
Chelsea midfielder Frank Lampard, whose contract with the Blues is ending this season, has decided to move on. The Englishman met New York City coach Jason Kreis at Manchester City’s Carrigan complex for an informal meeting to discuss about the transfer deal. Atletico Madrid striker David Villa has already signed a 3 year contract with New York City, and now the club is looking to rope in the Chelsea legend into their squad.
Frank Lampard who will turn 36 on 30th june, had been offered a one year contract extension last year. It is reported that He was offered a one year contract deal this summer on reduced terms which he declined,thus making him a free market transfer this summer.
A midfielder with precise passing skills and ability to find goal scoring opportunities at a consistent level , Lampard scored 211 goals for Chelsea, most by any player for them. He managed to win three Premier League titles, four FA Cups, two League Cups, the Champions League and the Europa League with the Blues. Lampard’s possible move to New York City will end 3 time Chelsea Player Of The Year’s 13 year old illustrious career at Stamford Bridge.
Major Soccer League’s newly formed New York City team, which is co-owned by Sheikh Mansour’s City Football Group and New York Yankees will be playing their first league game in March 2015. And the club is looking to expand their wings and they are in touch with many star players across the European arena. They made their first successful signing for this season as they managed to rope in Atletico Madrid striker David villa, who described their offer as ‘irresistible’. It is reported that the club has offered a long term contract to Lampard and are ready to pay wages almost equal to what he is getting in Chelsea at present.
As New York City will play their first game in March next year, The Englishman will have to find other options to keep him engaged this season. It is reported that Chelsea may offer its veteran player a half-year contract to give him a fitting farewell that he richly deserves. He may also opt to play for Harry Redknapp led QPR team on a half-year contract.
