The 35th edition of the prestigious Federation Cup kicks off in Kochi and Manjeri on the 14th of January. Shillong Lajong
The North-Eastern side has been one of the most set and stable units in terms of players and the coaching staff. While most of the I-League sides have shuffled their coaching staff or their foreign players, Lajong have stuck with the same team and they have been rewarded for their persistence as they find themselves at the fourth spot in the I-League.
World Cupper Cornell Glen has been the top performer for the Shillong based club having scored 8 goals in 11 matches and though the striker was injured in the last of couple of matches, The Reds will be hoping that he can rework his magic in the Federation Cup. Brazilian Uiliams will however be missing due to an injury. It has however been the midfield trio ofAi??Taisuke Matsugae, Boithang Haokip and Milan Singh who have pulled the strings for the Reds. The trio has shown immense work-rate in the center of the park and have notched up important goals as well. In N.P. Pradeep, Climax Lawrence and Nicholas Rodrigues, Mumbai FC have an experienced midfield and the trio will no doubt lead Mumbai FC’ s challenge in the tournament. Climax and Rodrigues have played consistently well throughout the I-League while Pradeep has had an immediate impact after he was signed on loan. Upfront it will be upto the evergreen Yusif Yakubu and another IMG Reliance contracted player Mohammed RafiAi??in absence of releasedAi??Afghan striker Sandjar Ahmadi. The youngsters in the team – Ashutosh Mehta and Jayesh Rane have also done their job whenever called upon.
