And although the fee is not disclosed yet, it is understood that FC Barcelona have paid somewhere in the region of 7-8 million euros for the signature of Douglas.
Reports coming from Spain had claimed earlier that new boss Luis Enrique has plans to play Cuadrado in right back position. However, the said move was vetoed by sporting director Andoni Zubizaretta and he asked the coach to go with Douglas instead.
Meanwhile, the capture of Douglas, who do not possess any playing experience in Europe, is likely to increase the playing time of Martin Montoya. The young La Masia graduate has been tipped to play a major role for Barcelona in coming years and he will be a first choice right back for Luis Enrique.
Meanwhile, FC Barcelona management has stepped up their attempts to sale Dani Alves as very few days are remaining for the closure of the summer transfer window and no club has shown any concrete interest in taking the Brazilian.
Paris Saint Germain were touted as the potential suitors of Alves but the French club baulked at the salary demands of the player. English Premier League side Liverpool has shown some interest in signing Dani Alves and the club is expected to make a move for the player in coming days.
