Ross Barkley and Luke Shaw make it to the 23-man squad picked up by Roy Hodgson as Ashley Cole and Michael Carrick misses out.
Roy Hodgson revealed his 23-man England squad for the upcoming World Cup in Brazil. The England managed has selected a fairly young squad and some big names have missed out as well. Apart from the 23-man squad Hodgson has also announced a 7-man stand-by list for the World Cup.
Manchester City goalkeeper Joe Hart, who kept 13 clean-sheets in their title winning campaign, will be Hodgsonai??i??s number one at the World Cup. West Bromwich goalkeeper and Celtic custodian Fraser Forster have also found a place in the squad after some impressive performances this season. Norwich City keeper John Ruddy was left out though, despite some fine display for his club.
Experienced left-back Ashley Cole was also left out of the squad and the Englishman has also decided to retire from International football following his snub. Cole, who also runs out of contract at Chelsea next month, has made only 15 starts in the Premier League this season as Jose Mourinho preferred Cesar Azpilicueta as the left back and the former Arsenal man struggled with his fitness. Hodgson has selected Southampton left-back Luke Shaw as his replacement as England look to build for the future. Hodgson is hopeful that Shaw can step-up on the big stage and fill the big shoes of Cole for the national side.

Hodgson selected Ross Barkley, who has grabbed a lot of attention this season at Everton. The inclusion of Frank Lampard has been questioned though, especially with Gareth Barry stacking his claim with some fine performances for the Merseyside. Arsenal duo Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Jack Wilshere have made it to the squad despite struggling with their fitness this season.
