Borussia Dortmund’s general manager Hans-Joachim Watzke is confident that star Marco Reus will remain at the club next season. Reus has been subject to interest from all over Europe and is currently one of the hottest names in the transfer market.
In the past few months, Reus has been linked to Premier League sidesAi??Chelsea, Liverpool, Manchester United and Arsenal; Bundesliga rivals Bayern Munich and La Liga giants Barcelona and Real Madrid.
Reus has a clause in his contract permitting him to leave for a set fee at the end of the current campaign which was brought to the fore controversially afterAi??Bayern chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge claimed in the summer window that he was sure the value of that clause to be ai??i??25million (A?19.9million).
The said sum is very meagre when juxtaposed with Reus’s talent and ability. In a world where transfer fees are highly inflated, and even average players cost betweenAi??A?10- 25m,Ai??A?20m for Reus is a bargain.
Naturally, after these claims were made by the Bayern chairman, interest in Reus also severely grew. Dortmund are strruggling in the Bundesliga and Reus sustained his second serious injury in six months. The situation at present is very frustrating for both the player and the club and rumors everyday linking Reus with almost all top clubs only intensify.
However, DortmundAi??general manager Hans-Joachim Watzke has insisted thatAi??Reus is happy at the club.
“I believe that fundamentally Marco would love to stay here because he loves the city and he loves Borussia Dortmund,” Watzke told Stern magazine.
“But I’m sure the people who are interested in him moving will provide him with other arguments.”
In the last two years, two big Dortmund stars, Mario Gotze and Robert Lewandowski have moved to direct rivals Bayern Munich, and Dortmund are naturally eager to avoid losing another important player to their bitter rivals.Ai??Watzke claimed that Reus will not be sold for financial reasons.
“We’re aiming to build revenue to around ai??i??300million by 2017/18, but that excludes transfers,” he added.
“That would mean we would be able to invest an additional 20 million in the team than we can now.”
