Having secured consecutive wins against Barcelona and Liverpool, Real Madrid are enjoying a brilliant run of form. Scoring plenty of goals without conceding too many at the back, it seems that Carlo Ancelotti has finally found the perfect balance for his Real Madrid side.
Backed by a strong defence which is led by Sergio Ramos and Pepe in the middle, Real Madrid have been successful in plugging their loop-holes at the back, having conceded 10 goals in 10 games so far in the league. Varane has shown himself to be capable of earning a starting position and is blossoming into a solid defender for the Los Blancos giving Ancelotti plenty of option to rotate the squad.
Indeed it is rotation which is going to be crucial for Real Madrid this season as they plan for a hectic schedule which will include the Club World Cup. Having won the Champions League, Real Madrid seemed very keen to fight aggressively for all important trophies, and though they lost out in the Supercopa, the Los Blancos will be looking to win the Club World Cup this season. Add to that the pressure of the Champions League and the Spanish La Liga, Real Madrid will have to be very careful in order to ensure they avoid a complete burn out and an eventual collapse in the final end of the season.
Defence is not an area of worry for Ancelotti. The Italian has in Sergio Ramos, Pepe, Marcelo and Carvajal, his four defenders who are likely to line-up whenever fit. However the presence of Arbeloa, Varane, Nacho and Coentrao gives Madrid some breathing room and will help Ancelloti keep the players fresh.
In the midfield however, it will be interesting to see if Carlo Ancelotti can indeed plan for a hectic schedule with just Illarrramendi and Khedira available for selection from the substitutes. Though Illarramendi was initially brought in as Xabi Alonsoai??i??s replacement, the young Spaniard is yet to prove worthy of the Real Madrid jersey. Khedira on the other hand does impress the manager with his work-rate, but his injuries coupled with his style of football, will not work well with Real Madridai??i??s current style. Isco is in fine form and Gareth Baleai??i??s return means he is available for rotation but the youngster is not well-suited to play deep in the midfield, the position currently occupied by Luka Modric and Kroos.
Hence Modric remains Real Madridai??i??s key man in the mid-field. Defensively strong, Modric has the ability to create space for himself and his team-mates, allowing Real Madrid to dictate the pace of the game. Toni Kroos too shares the same ability but is used in a deeper role and is tasked with the responsibility to link the defence with the team. He has adjusted well in Spain and will be looking to leave a mark in his debut season at Real Madrid. However Ancelotti does not quite have the option to rotate these two midfielders and will probably look to rest them against weaker options in the La Liga.
In terms of wingers, Carlo Ancelotti has at his disposal, the Worldai??i??s best player, coupled with Gareth Bale, James Rodriguez and Isco. Ronaldo remains Real Madridai??i??s most lethal weapon and the Portuguese looks motivated to take the club to greater heights after shooting off to a brilliant goal-scoring record. His partnership with Gareth Bale and Benzema, along with Modric in the middle is integral to Real Madridai??i??s goal-scoring ability. The presence of James Rodriguez gives Ronaldo the freedom to switch positions and he has often operated as an assisting striker, deployed just behind Karim Benzema. Though the Portuguese is in brilliant form, he will have to be used carefully by Ancelotti to avoid a repetition of last season. Having played almost every gameAi?? last season, even significantly lesser important games such as the return leg against Schalke in the Champions League, Ronaldo missed out entirely on a string of important matches and was a shadow of himself even after making a late return. However it seems that the Portuguese has learnt his lesson as he ai???allowedai??i?? himself to be dropped in the Copa del Rey fixture and will have to pick out the games to sit out this season.
Jese Rodriguez is expected to make his return soon after being out for nearly an entire year. He is likely to share Ronaldo and Baleai??i??s burden on the flanks and if his last seasonai??i??s performance is anything to go by, the young Spaniard looks more than ready to take the responsibility.
Chicharito too gives Ancelotti the option to rotate the squad and give Benzema the odd game off. While Morata failed to liveAi?? up to the billing last season, Chicharito is a proven goal-scorer and has had a good start at Real Madrid.
