Liverpool are said to have turned their attention to Xherdan Shaqiri after targetAi??Mohamed Salah is set to join Chelsea
It seems as though Xherdan Shaqiri has emerged as a possible target for Rodgers to add to the injury plagued squad after the public pursuit of Mohamed Salah has fallen through and the Egyptian international has chosen to join rivals Chelsea instead.
Liverpool faced a serious setback as Jose Mourinho was successful in hijacking the services of the 21 year old Egyptian player even after reports throughout the winter window suggested Liverpool were a finger’s distance away from getting the FC Basel man.
Rodgers has now decided to shift his energies to Xherdan Shaqiri to add to the Reds squad.
Liverpool had tried to sign the 22-year-old Bayern Munich winger in the summer but failed to secure his services.
ShaqiriAi??joined Bayern in 2012, but has struggled to hold down a regular first-team place, either under Pep Guardiola or Jupp Heynckes.
Arsene Wenger is a keen admirer of the former Basel midfielder, with Swiss reports in October suggesting that Arsenal could make a ai??i??15m offer during the January transfer window.
Reports emerged as early as December that the Liverpool boss was looking to add the Swiss star to his side by securing a loan move in January. With Salah’s move to Chelsea more or less confirmed it looks as though Rodgers will make the move to sign the ex-Basel star to make sure his dream of securing a top 4 spot doesn’t fall through.

The Reds were looking serious in their pursuit of Champions League berth, but an average and tough festive season has added to doubts.
