Sevilla have told Liverpool that they can have Moreno if they meet their asking price.
Liverpool’s pursuit of Alberto Moreno hit a standstill after Sevilla started playing hard-ball with the Reds and gradually started increasing their valuation of the 21 year old.
Reports indicated that the player was very close to a move to last season’s Premier League runners up, with some English and Spanish newspapers even saying the player was even on a plane with his father to complete a medical with Liverpool.
However, it has been a considerable time since, and recent reports stated that the club were eyeing a move for Sporting Lisbon and Argentina left back Marcos Rojo as a possible back-up for the Spanish international.
Now, Sevilla’sAi??president Jose Castro confirmed that Brendan Rogers’ side are one of several teams interested in signing the player, but claimed that serious negotiations were yet to begin
“It’s true that there is interest from a number of clubs, above all Liverpool, in him, but we haven’t had proper conversations about selling him,” Castro said in an interview with Spanish newspaper ABC.
“Signing any player from this club has a price and we will decide that price. If Alberto Moreno has to stay at the club he will stay but if a club pays the amount we think is big enough for him to leave, he will leave. But there is no pressure.
“We haven’t reached an agreement, but talks haven’t broken down. We’ll wait and see what happens. If Liverpool are interested in the player and pay the right amount, he will be sold.”
However, Castro maintained he is under no pressure to sell key members of his team, which won the Europa League last season.Ai??Last summer, Sevilla sold four important players which included Jesus Navas and Alvaro Negredo. The transfer window is not even a month old, and the Spanish club has sold their captain, Ivan Rakitic, to Barcelona. Casto couldn’t hide his disappointment on losing the Croatian international.
“Seling Rakitic was tough,” said Castro.
“He’s a player of such quality and importance to the club, the captain of the team, and when we meet with him we made a superhuman effort to keep him, offering him a contract that was unusual for a club like this one.
“He decided he wanted to go elsewhere, and it did not go the way we wanted it too, because the negotiations could have been done differently.
“I can assure you that I wasn’t happy at all about Rakitic leaving, because I wanted him to stay here so we could enjoy him, but as he had other ideas, there was little we could do.”
Liverpool would have to pay around theAi??A?20million mark. It was reported that Liverpool had negotiated a deal in between a region ofAi??A?16-18m with the Spanish club, but clearly those reports were wide off mark.
Moreno’s quality was visible throughout last season which saw him getting picked up by Vincente del Bosque in the preliminary 30 man squad for the World Cup (he got axed later). The 21 year old would be a great signing for Rodgers as he wants to sort out his defence, which gave the Reds a lot of problems in the last campaign.Ai??A?20million would be worth it for the Spanish left back.
