From now till mid October, the most likely and safe solution is to play Grosskreutz, Mkhitaryan and Aubameyang behind a lone striker Immobile or Ramos. This may work in the games vs Mainz and Freiburg, but the problem with is that there is no creative playmaker in the lineup, since both Sahin and GA?ndogan are still not fully fit.
The anticipation of Shinji Kagawaai??i??s return to the Westfalenstadion has been overshadowed by Reusai??i?? injury. Yet, a rapturous welcome for the returning Japanese hero looms. His introduction to the lineup might involve pushing Aubameyang up as a striker. This adds a creative spark to the team and Mkhitaryan can continue to play out wide. Target men in the form of Immobile and Ramos ready to come off the bench could be crucial late game additions. Had Jonas Hofmann not been loaned out, he would have been an alternative, if Kagawa was deemed not ready to face Freiburg this week.If Klopp chooses not to alter his 4-4-2, Kagawa and Mkhitaryan could start in wide roles on either flank with Aubameyang centrally.
An often overlooked piece of this puzzle is the young Serbian, Milos Jojic. Capable of playing in offensive and defensive midfield positions, he could get more playing time as a partner to Bender in the 4-2-3-1 and solidify the midfield defensively, rather than playing as a deep lying playmaker like Sahin.
In either case, the goal scoring burden will have to be shared. Although the Gabonese international is yet to score this season and Immobile is still acclimatising to the German game, each will have to notch up the goals to take the pressure off them and the team in general.
Although no player in the squad can match Reusai??i?? style and influence on the game, these alternatives ensure that the 25 year old will not hopefully, be sorely missed in Dortmund. The stage has been set for Jurgen Klopp to unleash his tactical flexibility, with the spotlight on Mkhitaryan and Kagawa. The question still remains whether a winning formula can be established quickly, or will it take a few bad games for the team to stabilize once more?
