After their recent signing of Thomas Vermaelen from Arsenal, Barcelona are now looking to acquire Liverpool defender Daniel Agger. While speaking at Vermaelen’s presentation, Barcelona’s sporting director Andoni Zubizarreta admitted that Barcelona will look solidify their squad by buying in new players this transfer season.
Barcelona had tried to buy the Dane last season as well, but Liverpool denied their offer at that time. But the Catalan giants are not ready to give up on their chase and they are ready to splash as much as 12 million pounds for Agger’s transfer to Camp Nou.

“There are options that we are working on for the exit of some players, as such we’re not discarding that others could come in.What I can say is that at midnight on August 31 we hope to have the best squad possible.”

Daniel Agger, who made his debut at the Anfield after transferring from Brondby in 2006, has appeared in 175 games for the Reds ever since. The Danish international was named as Liverpool’s Vice-captain earlier last season, but he was asked to play as second fiddle to Mamadou Sakho, which certainly did not go down well with the Danish International.
With the inclusion of Dejan Lovren to the Liverpool squad this season, Agger’s chances of getting regular match appearances are very bleak and that is the reason why he is quite eager to leave the club before the transfer season ends.
Arsenal are also in the race to buy the defender. After the transfer of Thomas Vermaealen to Barcelona, Arsene Wenger is looking to fill the void left after Vermaelen’s transfer. Agger, with his precise tackling skills and man marking abilities is certainly on top of Wenger’s priority list.
While speaking to reporters after Vermaelen’s transfer, Wenger said “Vermaelen behaved outstandingly last year ai??i??
