Manchester United ended their home campaign with a comfortable with over Hull City as Nemanja Vidic said farewell to the Old Trafford.
Manchester United kept themselves in touching distance of Tottenham Hotspur with this win, but perhaps more than the three points, it was events on and off the pitch which grabbed peopleai??i??s attention. It was an emotional night at Old Trafford as both Nemanja Vidic and Ryan Giggs played their last game in front of the United fans, while two youngsters showed that the future remains bright.
Ryan Giggs fielded a young side for this game with 18-year-old James Wilson and 20-year-old Tom Lawrence making their debut. There were lot of changes in the midfield and defence as well as United showed a glimpse of what awaits them in the future. Nemanja Vidic, who started on the bench, had to come on early as Phil Jones suffered a shoulder injury and the Old Trafford crowd gave him a rousing reception. James Wilson made his mark on the game in the 31st minute as he finished from close range after being set-up by Marouane Fellainiai??i??s header at the far post. It was a lovely finish and the goal arrived from Adnan Januzaj free-kick.
With a dream start to his career, Wilson gained confidence and he doubled the lead in the 61st minute this scoring from a rebound as Eldin Janupovic saved Fellainiai??i??s initial shot and the ball fell kindly for the United frontman. The youngster was however not provided the opportunity to complete his hattrick as Robin van Persie replaced him on the pitch.
Hull City did pull one back as Matt Fryatt scored a wonderful individual goal from outside the box to provide the away side with a glimmer of hope. But this was soon forgotten as the moment arrived for which the Old Trafford crowd was waiting desperately. Ryan Giggs replaced Tom Lawrence as he walked onto the famous pitch, for the last time as a player. The Welshman, despite being urged on by the crowd, failed to score, but he did provide a beautiful assist as Robin van Persie restored Unitedai??i??s two goal lead with a wonderful finish.
The match ended 3-1 and Ryan Giggs gave an emotional speech in the end. He urged the fans to keep supporting the club and insisted good times will return soon.
“Your support this year has never changed, you have always supported the team and the staff. I’m sure in the coming years we will bring you more success.
“I would just like to say, keep supporting us, you have seen a little glimpse of the future, and this is what this club is about.
“It never stands still, we always give youth a chance and we try and play attractive football.
“Sometimes we don’t win, but we give it our all. Keep supporting us and the good times will come back soon.” ai??i?? The Manchester United manager said.
Later in the post-match interview he faced questions regarding the reported appointment of Louis van Gaal as the manager of the club, but Giggs insisted that he hasnai??i??t been informed any officially, yet.
“I’ve not been told anything. I’ve been left to get on with my job, which I’m quite happy with and I’ll get on with that until Sunday.”
He was also pull of praise for young debutants James Wilson and Tom Lawrence.
“It’s always been the way at United, to give young players a chance.
“He is a good player, he is exciting. He has trained with us the last couple of days and not looked out of place, and so has Tom.
“It’s great to have kids who have been at the club for so long. I think they have all been at the club since they were eight.” ai??i?? Giggs added.
The United legend also thanked Nemanja Vidic for his service to the club and wished him well for his future.
