Arsenal won the FA Cup breaking their 9 year old duck and thus getting the monkey off their back at long last. Since that win, quite a lot has changed in the red half of North London. Bacary Sagna has moved to Manchester City after his contract was up, while Lukasz Fabianski and Nicklas Bendtner joined him on the way out of the Emirates. On the positive side, Arsene Wenger has signed a new contract at the club and the Gunners have signed Chile international Alexis Sanchez and France right sided defender Mathieu Debuchy. Both players will fit right into the Arsenal starting eleven this coming season and bring with them some invaluable experience to the side. However the squad still has it’s fair share of blind spots and will need further strengthening in key areas if Arsenal are to challenge for the Premier League title while maintaining a strong push in the cup competitions.

Thomas Vermaelen ai??i?? Manchester United (A?10m)
Thomas Vermaelen is still the official Arsenal captain but that might not be the case by the time the transfer window closes. Manchester United have shown a discreet interest in the Belgian and are hoping to complete a deal before the season begins. Arsenal themselves do not have enough cover in central defence and need to find a suitable replacement for the former Ajax captain. Vermaelen’s versatility and leadership at the back will be sorely missed if he is shipped off and Arsenal must try everything in their power to keep hold of their captain. Unless they can get a replacement who is as good.
Lukas PodolskiAi??
Lukas Podolski is a fan favourite at the Emirates and provides a very good bench option for the Arsenal boss, but recently there have been reports and rumours suggesting sufficient interest in the out of favour German. Despite the player categorically refusing any such possibilities and also Arsene Wenger being confident of keeping hold of the 29 year old World Cup winner, the rumors don’t seem to go away. Podolski’s experience could prove vital in a long season ahead for the Gunners, especially with limited options upfront. Arsene Wenger sees the player as a gamechanger off the bench and would definitely be reluctant in selling him unless another attacker arrives first. Seems unlikely but not impossible.
Serge Gnabry
The teenage Arsenal starlet is drawing attention from various clubs in the Premier League with Newcastle United and Southampton having made inquiry about his availability. Arsenal will obviously look to hold on to their young prospect but the need for playing time might force the club’s hand in loaning the German out. A loan in the Premier league would be ideal for Arsenal and for the player’s development. Newcastle United seem to be loaded in attacking midfield and thus it would make more sense to send the player to a youth-friendly setup at Southampton. Whichever destination it is, it seems unlikely Serge will be plying his trade at the Emirates next season.

Arsenal have needed a second goalkeeper ever since the departure of FA Cup hero Fabianski and Colombia #1 David Ospina has come up as the downright favorite. So much so that numerous reports believe it’s already done and only awaiting an official confirmation. Ospina was impressive at the World Cup and had a strong domestic season to accompany that. Arsenal have done smart business considering the quality of the Colombian who seems to be an upgrade on Fabianski and will definitely not settle at being #2, thus keeping Szczesny on his toes and help him learn and create a good competitive atmosphere and for the price quoted, that would be a steal. The Arsenal goal is in good hands once Ospina’s move materializes.
Sami Khedira ai??i??Real Madrid (A?20m)
The Sami Khedira to Arsenal links don’t seem to go away. With one year left to run on the German’s contract at Real and no signs of a contract extension, Sami Khedira seems to be on his way out of the club. Arsenal on their part need a defensive minded midfielder and seem to have earmarked the Real Madrid man. Khedira is an all action midfielder and alongside Aaron Ramsey could form a solid core in the middle. Arsenal’s counter attacking style will also suit the Real Madrid man whose energy driving the team forward after a turnover is exceptional. However despite all the positives, Arsenal probably need someone who can sit deep and protect the defence getting exposed from counters rather than initiating them. Morgan Schneiderlin ai??i?? Southampton (A?20m)
Morgan Schneiderlin, despite not being in the same league or bracket as Sami Khedira in terms of reputation, could well be the perfect fit foe Arsenal who have lacked a defensive midfielder by trade since Gilberto Silva left the club. Southampton are facing an exodus and would thus like to hold dearly to their leftover prized possessions. Schneiderlin could form a wonderful partnership with Ramsey in the middle of the park. The Frenchman’s awareness, means he’s ready to spot a danger and put in a tackle or read the developing attack and intercept it. Arsene Wenger is known to be a long term admirer of the 24 year old, and has had him scouted on multiple occasions. With roadblocks hitting the attempted transfer of Khedira, Arsenal might need to shift focus and soon, with Tottenham lurking around for the midfielder too.
Mario Balotelli ai??i?? A.C.Milan (A?25m)
Italian striker Mario Balotelli has been linked to the Gunners Ai??ever since the curtains fell on the previous season. Tabloids and the Twitter buzzfeed even reported official bids being rejected. Arsene Wenger however rejected those claims but one senses that the former Manchester City man could be a good addition to the Arsenal attack especially with the horrible injury track record in recent seasons. At just 23, Balotelli has shown sufficient potential to suggest he has a bright future and has racked up goals despite not having the best services in Milan. Controversies, tantrums and indiscipline probably go hand in hand with Balotelli but to be fair to the player, he seems to have grounded for a good couple of seasons now. With Giroud showing fatigue leading the line alone for the entire season last term, Balotelli could help share the Frenchman’s load and add much needed depth to the squad.
