Arsenal FC are considering a move for Southampton right back Calum Chambers as their search for Bacary Sagnaai??i??s replacement continues.
If reports are to be believed, Calum Chambers could become the latest Southampton graduate to join Arsenal. According to Mirror, Arsene Wenger is highly impressed by the development of the 19-year-old full back at St Maryai??i??s Stadium last season and is looking to make a move for him in this transfer window.
The Gunners are expected to spend heavily in this transfer market and one of their biggest priority currently is to sign a new right back in order to replace the Manchester City bound Bacary Sagna. Carl Jenkinson is the only other right back in the first team squad presently and the former Charlton Athletic defender hasnai??i??t been consistent enough to guarantee himself a regular place in the starting eleven next season.
A lot of names have already been linked with this role at the Emirates, with the likes of Serge Aurier and Atsuto Uchida thought to be at the top of their wanted list. Calum Chambers is the latest name to be linked with Arsenal, but their interest in him is not new. In fact, the London club have been scouting the Southampton defender since the start of last season and their scouts were also present during England U-19ai??i??s Euro Championship qualifiers against Ukraine and Scotland.
Mass exodus is expected at Southampton in this summer, following the departure of Mauricio Pochettino and Rickie Lambert. Adam Lallana and Luke Shaw are also expected to leave the St Maryai??i??s Stadium, while Calum Chambers seems to be the latest addition to that list. But the Gunners wonai??i??t find it easy to convince the Saints to part ways with Chambers, who made 18 starts in the Premier League last season.
The England U-19 internationalai??i??s current contract with the club runs till 2017 and Arsenal might be asked to pay over the top in order to secure his signature. At this moment, Serge Aurier still seems to be Arsene Wengerai??i??s first preference as their new right back, but with Liverpool and QPR in the mix, Calum Chambers could be the fall-back option for the Gunners presently.
