Arsenal are said to be front-runners to sign unsettled Atletico Madrid midfielder Mario Suarez.
Spanish champions Atletico Madrid are willing to offload unsettled midfielder Mario Suarez. Reports suggest that the midfielder is looking to exit the club in the January transfer window and Arsenal, who on the lookout for a holding midfielder, are interested in signing the Spaniard.
Mario Suarez made 22 appearances for the Spanish outfit last season helping the club win the La Liga title and reach the Champions League final. But the 27-year old has made only 6 league appearances for Atletico this season. With the presence of Gabi, Tiago, Raul Garcia and Saul Niguez, Suarez has fallen down the pecking order under Diego Simeone. Atletico Madrid are believed to be willing to let the unhappy midfielder go.

Arsenal are poised to sign a defensive midfielder in the January transfer window and Mario Suarez seems to be the one. According to whoscored.com, in the 2013-14 season Mario Suarez started 16 league games for Atletico Madrid averaging 2.4 tackles and 1.5 interceptions per game. The midfielder averaged 3 tackles per game in 5 Champions League appearances, one of which was the final itself which Atletico lost in extra time.
Mario Suarez is a youth product of Atletico Madrid and has played all of his football in Spain. The midfielder spent two loan spells in the Segunda Division of Spain at Real Valladolid and Celta Vigo. Suarez was then purchased by RCD Mallorca, signing a four-year deal that left AtlAi??tico the possibility of reacquiring the player. After being a regular for Mallorca for two seasons, the buy-back clause was activated and he returned to the Spanish capital club.
Atletico Madrid currently sit third on the La Liga table, 4 points behind league leaders Real Madrid having played a game more than their local rivals.
