Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is a big admirer of Ashley Williams and he also tried to sign him last summer but failed in his attempts. However, Wenger is now ready to make one more attempt to sign him in coming June.
Williams, 29, has just one year remaining on his contract with Swansea and negotiations over his contract extension have not started yet. Reportedly, the player himself is not ready to extend his stay at Liberty Stadium in order to secure a move elsewhere and his situation has not got unnoticed at Emirates Stadium.
Meanwhile, according to the agent of Jamie Moralee, the player is ready to stay at Liberty Stadium. “Ash’s No. 1 choice is to sign a new deal at Swansea,” Moralee said in the month of March.
“If he can get something sorted out at Swansea, that will be what he wants. Only if we can’t make that happen will we look at option two, three, four or however many there might be.
“This is the most important contract of Ash’s career when you consider his age and that he has a third child on the way.
“We know in our minds what we want to do ai??i?? but we don’t take anything for granted.
“If the club can match the requirements of what we want, I’m sure a deal can be done.”
But considering the delay in agreeing for the extension of contract, Arsenal management feels that there is an opportunity to lure him away.
Arsenal have the likes of Per Mertesacker, Laurent Koscielny and Thomas Vermaelen in their ranks. But the Belgian defender Vermaelen is reportedly looking for exit from Emirates Staidum this summer.
Arsenal spent 128 days at the top of Premier League table last season but failed to win the title after losing their lead in the second half of the season.
