There is an aura of negativity surrounding Mesut Ozil in the media about his recent performances. He has been criticised in the English media and now the German media has joined the bandwagon with many questioning his place in the World Cup squad that is about to start in less than hundred days.
Sport Witness ran a story which states ai???The Arsenal player is too individual, and his ability to lead a team is questioned as is his current state of mind. There is praise too, from former coaches but the feeling toward Ozil in Germany appears to be increasingly negative.ai???
Bild went one step further to rope in German national team coach Joachim Lowe who said that ai???We need the best players currently available at the World Cup, and not theoretically the best. I told the players: The clock is ticking. And only ones who hear it will have a fighting chance. But Ozil seems unaffected by these criticisms as he has hit back at the media saying that these do not matter to him. He has also mentioned that it is natural for a player to get adjusted to the pace and the physicality of the Premier League and he is no different.
“I don’t care. They wrote something different three weeks ago and they will do it again in another three weeks. That’s part of the business in England.Ai?? Almost every new player needs time to adjust in the Premier League. That’s also what Jens Lehmann said recently. The challenges here are completely different.
“It was obvious that I would fall into a sort of limbo because I missed the whole pre-season. There were also times where I was not satisfied with my performances but I overcame this now,” he added.
But Ozil has found a friend in Arsenal and Germany teammate Lukas Podolski who believes that some of the criticism that Ozil has faced has been over the top and that he has in him to overcome this difficult times and give a fitting reply to his detractors on the field.
“Criticism is part and parcel of football,” said Podolski.
“I think Mesut is a fantastic player. He’s going to give a lot of joy to Arsenal and to Germany.
“He’s still young and a good friend of mine. He’s played many great games and he will play many more. I think some of the criticism was a bit exaggerated and unfair at times.”
In a dramatic transfer deadline day Mesut Ozil switched clubs from Real Madrid to Arsenal for a whooping A?42.5 million and so far his performance has been just about average with Arsenal sliding down after putting up impressive performances at the beginning of the season.
