Arsenal FC manager Arsene Wenger has revealed how he helped Aaron Ramsey during the most difficult phase of his career.
Aaron Ramsey, who was once heavily criticized by experts and fans alike, underwent a massive transformation last season as he won the Arsenal player of the season award. Arsene Wenger has revealed how he helped the Welshman regain his confidence and asked him to change his game in order to deal with the most difficult phase of his career.
At the age of 23, Aaron Ramsey has experienced the highs and lows of the game. The Welshman started his Arsenal career as one of the most promising players in the squad, but his career seemed to have stagnated after he suffered an awful injury in 2010. After a lot of struggle, Ramsey did regain his fitness, but couldnai??i??t regain his confidence on the pitch.
The midfielder was mocked and criticized by most of the Gooners and experts, who believed his Arsenal career might be over. But Ramsey didnai??i??t give up, and most importantly, never did Arsene Wenger. The Arsenal manager always maintained his faith in Welsh international and eventually his belief paid off as Ramsey dazzled the fans with his performance last season.
Ramsey found his goal scoring touch as Arsenal staged a strong title challenge in the first half of the season, and many believe that the Gunners could have even won it had Ramsey remained fit for the whole of the campaign. Ramsey ended the season with 16 goals in all competitions, Arsenal player of the season award and a man of the match performance in the final of the FA Cup.
Arsene Wenger has now revealed how he helped Ramsey evolve as a player, when he was at the receiving end of criticism from all the supporters.
“He went through a bad patch, and I couldn’t play him anymore at Emirates Stadium.
“I sat down with Aaron and I told him, ‘I don’t think people don’t like you, but they don’t like your game at the moment’. It was in his hands to change that.
“He had to come back to a more simple game. When you go through a bad patch in life you always go back to the basics. In football you slowly get confidence back and then you play naturally again.
“You have to get back to basics to gain confidence. Aaron accepted that, he did it and he gained confidence again. Then you saw a different player, because he is intelligent, and when I came out of the meeting I knew this guy would come back.
“Aaron listened and he realised he had to change his game. That’s why he came back.” ai??i?? The Arsenal manager said.
Arsenal fans will hope that Ramsey can maintain his form this season, as well as his fitness. The Gunners are building a strong squad and with an in-form Ramsey in their side, they will be serious contenders for the title once again.
