Arsenal FC are preparing a move for the highly rated Nottingham Forest goalkeeper Karl Darlow according to reports. The Gunners face competition from Liverpool, Tottenham and Chelsea.
Karl Darlow started his footballing career at Aston Villa, before joining Nottingham Forest in 2006. The Englishman was promoted to the first team 2010 before being sent out on loan to Newport County and Walsall. After making 20 appearances in the league in 2012-13 season, Darlow became Nottinghamai??i??s number one goalkeeper last season under former manager Billy Davies, who was sacked back in March.
Darlow produced has produced some fantastic performances in the last two seasons and is widely considered as the best goalkeeping talent in England, outside the Premier League. His consistency with the gloves has drawn a lot of interests from Premier League clubs and the likes of Liverpool, Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur have scouted him regularly.
Darlow was initially linked with a move to Chelsea if Petr Cech departs from Stamford Bridge, with the expected arrival of Thibaut Courtois. But recent reports suggest that Arsenal are looking to gazump all the suitors and sign the 23-year-old custodian this summer.
Arsenal are expected to spend heavily in this transfer window and a new goalkeeper is at the top of their priority list. Wojciech Szczesny is the only remaining goalkeeper in the first team squad at the moment. Vito Mannone joined Sunderland at the start of last summer, while Lukasz Fabianski joined Swansea City on free few days back. Emiliano Viviano, who was signed on loan last season, has also returned to Palermo at the end of his spell.
Arsenal have already been linked with a number of possible new additions between the sticks with reports in Spain suggesting that Arsene Wenger has been in contact with Real Madrid goalkeeper Iker Casillas. Karl Darlow has been the latest name to be added to that list with reports suggest that the ArsenalAi??are keen on making a move to sign the Nottingham Forest goalkeeper.
But the Championship club are keen to hold onto their prized assert with new manager Stuart Pearce looking to build a side capable of gaining promotion to the Premier League next season. Darlow signed a contract extension with his club last summer and it runs till 2017 and Nottingham are in a good position to bargain a good price for their player.
Stuart Pearce has already indicated that it will take a huge transfer fee for them to consider an offer for their best young players.
