Arsenal FC are interested in signing Bayern Munich midfielder Javi Martinez as they look to strengthen their midfield.
Arsenal have reportedly enquired about the availability of Javi Martinez in the summer. Arsene Wenger has been an admirer of the Spanish international since his Athletic Bilbao days and was interested in signing him before Bayern Munich made what was a club record deal back then.
The Gunners are expected to make heavy investment in the transfer market in the summer with reports suggesting that Arsene Wenger has been handed over a A?100 million transfer budget. While signing a striker remains their priority, there are other parts of the squad which Wenger is looking to bolster in order to challenge for the title once again next season. Mikel Arteta and Mathieu Flamini are the defensive option in the midfield for the Gunners, and Arsenal do need a good replacement for the duo, especially with Arteta entering the fag end of this career. The likes of Aaron Ramsey and Jack Wilshere will prosper with a better partner in the pivot and will also provide the Arsenal back-four with a lot of protection, something which they have missed far too often.
Bayer Leverkusen midfielder Lars Bender has been linked with a move to the Emirates, but Arsene Wenger will prefer Javi Martinez if Bayern Munich are willing to sell him in the summer. The London club have enquired about this possibility before they make a move for Bender, who will be a cheaper option. Martinez still has three years left in his current contract with the German club and even if Bayern decide to entertain offers for the Spaniard, they are unlikely to accept anything less than A?35-40 million, having signed him for A?32 two years back.
But reports in Germany suggest that Javi Martinez is unsettled at the club and is dissatisfied with the role Pep Guardiola has offered him this season. The 25-year-old has made only 13 starts in the league this season and most of them have been as a center back. Martinez is keen to play in the midfield, but Guardiola has preferred Philipp Lahm in that role and has used the former Athletic Bilbao player mostly as a central defender, where he has struggled at times.

Arsene Wenger though should do his best to sign the Bayern Munich midfielder, as his arrival will strengthen the squad immensely.
