Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger believes that his team is capable of winning the Champions League this season despite of the defeat in the opening match of their campaign.
Arsenal were beaten by 2-0 by Borussia Dortmund in their opening game of UEFA Champions League and they are not considered as the favorites but Wenger believes that he has enough quality players at his disposal to conquer the Europe for the first time in their history. Wenger also believes that Champions League has become too predictable nowadays.
“Maybe the Champions League was more open 15 years ago,” Wenger told reporters in a press conference. “The concentration of the big players in a small number of clubs is much more than it was before.ai???
“It’s much more predictable today, the outcome of the Champions League, than it was 10 years ago. It’s harder to win it. If you make a poll tomorrow and say to people ‘give me four clubs who will win the Champions League’, 80 or 90 per cent of people will say these four clubs.ai???
Arsene Wenger also said that Arsenal is not one of the top 4 clubs of Europe but they can surprise the experts by winning the Champions League. “I don’t think we are one of the four who will be favourites to win it, but football is strange, and not always predictable. Let’s first qualify from the group stage and see.”
Arsenal host Galatasaray in their second Champions League group game tonight and Wenger will be without nine first-team players against the 19-times Turkish champions while Jack Wilshere is also not expected to be risked from the start as he is just back from his ankle injury.
Arsenal are facing serious problem of player injuries since past few years as many of their first team regulars are out on regular basis.
