2013 AFC Cup Semi Finalist, Kolkata giant Kingfisher East Bengal was considered to be a hot favourite to win the I-League. The amount of money they had to spend on assembling the team was way above most other clubs in I-League. They had best Indian players in the country in their squad. First match thrashing of Shillong Lajong away from home was said to be the trailer of what to expect in remaining season. But things have gone according to plan for East Bengal. Earlier they sacked Brazilian coach Marcus Falopa for poor results under him and appointed Armando Colaco. But the most successful coach in India has not been able to change the fortune the club.
The Red and Gold brigade after winning the Calcutta Football League have failed to perform consistently in I-League and Federation Cup. Early exit from Federation cup was unexpected and that ensures their absence from AFC Cup after being representative of India for three consecutive years. They had the advantage of having extra games in hand in I-League but they have failed to win matches. They have dropped some crucial points against Churchill Brothers and Dempo in last two outings hence squandered the advantage of having extra games. After dropping two points at home against Churchill Brothers one had expected them to go all-out attack against Dempo Sports Club. They did start well putting pressure on Dempo but after a controversial decision of referee giving Gurwinder Singh they went into a limbo. Dempo did score in the match later and secured three vital points for them. East Bengal certainly missed the services of Nigerian stopper back Uga Okpara. The defence looked fragile and have not able to stop the flow of the goals. Even there are problems in attacking half for the club. The striking pair of Chidi and Moga had subdued performances once again. The work rate of both has been questioned by many. The performances of the team’ s foreign players has been below par throughout the season which has been a cause of worry.
Armando Colaco would have expected to perform well with East Bengal. The things have not worked out to his likings. The poor results have created problems for him. He publicly confessed that there is not many happy faces in the dressing room. There are clear signs that both off and off field problems have affected club badly. It would be difficult for him to revive the team. After the goalless draw against Churchill, Calcao went on record and said
“I really don’t know. I tried to figure it out. I tried to speak to them. They don’t pass to each other. Some kind of selfishness is there inside the team. But I won’t take names. I don’t want any more controversy, since we still have many matches to play this season. What is happening I don’t know but I feel there is lot of discomfort in the dressing room.Ai?? Armando Colaco needs a couple of good victories under his belt to earn the confidence back of fans. Upcoming Kolkata derby could be perfect match which may help him if he able to secure a win over arch rivals Mohun Bagan. A defeat could be disastrous for him and the club while a win could settle down the nerves

After opening the scoring through Balwant Singh they fell behind from an own goal by teenager Alesh Sawant and a controversial spot kick taken by Chizoba. ButAi??continous attack on Mohun Bagan helped them to salvage a draw in added time. Balwant Singh continued his dream run scoring brace for his club.
Dudu helped Salgaocar FC to register a win over Mohammedan Sporting. The greens earned hard fought three points to stay in the hunt for top spot. This is their second win on the trot and much needed three points for Derrick Periera. Dudu and Duffy combination has started to work well and this is a good sign for the greens.
Shillong Lajong came back from behind to salvage a draw against United Sports Club. The purple brigade who lost many of the stalwarts in recent transfer window was 2-0 up in 25th minute courtesy of Eric Brown and new foriegner Waheed. But some good football by Shillong Lajong helped them to get a point out of this match. Ulliams and new signings Durga Boro of the club scored the goals for the northeastern side.
League leaders Bengaluru FC resumed their I-League campaign. The Bengaluru FC fans were expecting a comfortable victory over bottom half placed Mumbai FC but some brave football from Mumbaikars helped them get 1 point. Ebi Sukore opened the scoring for Mumbai FC while Robin Singh equalized for Bengaluru FC. Bengaluru FC with this draw has lost two crucial points which may come under count at the end of the season.
