Southampton captain Adam Lallana is confident of securing a move to Liverpool and has expressed his desire to play in the Champions League.
The Saints skipper has privately made it known that he expects to move to Liverpool in the transfer window, reports theAi??Daily Star.
Liverpool have been linked with the player since the end of the season and Rodgers is expected to have already tabled a bid for the attacking midfielder. Initially, Southampton had asked for a sum of A?20m, but reports indicate that they have increased the price and are now asking forAi??A?25m for their captain. The increase in price might have made Brendan Rodgers a little apprehensive initially, but he is still continuing with his pursuit for the 26 year old who is soon heading to Brazil for the World Cup.
Lallana also expressed his desire to play Champions League, which indicates that he is looking to move out of St. Mary’s to experience the highest level of club football.
“I’m ambitious. I have aspirations to play in the Champions League”, said the England international.
“Ever since I’ve played international football, you realise there’s that other level to play at. It would be great.Ai??I went to a couple of the Champions League games last year and the feeling you get, the buzz, it’s an unbelievable atmosphere. It’s definitely a goal of mine to play in the Champions League.”
But the midfielder is not concerned whether his future gets decided now or after the World Cup and maintained that his sole focus at the moment was the national team and the upcoming tournament.
“Whether my future gets sorted before or after the World Cup makes no difference to me,” he said.
“I am just fully focused on doing well for England and performing as well as I can.”
Lallana enjoyed a spectacular season as heAi??scored 10 goals and grabbed 7 assists in 42 appearances for his side. The 26 year old has come out of the terrific Southampton academy which has produced the likes ofAi??Gareth Bale, Theo Walcott and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain
Southampton finished the season in the eight position with 56 points (its highest Premier League points tally ever) and Lallana was an important part of it. His form earned him a place in the Professional Footballers’ Association Premier League team of the year.
Brendan Rodgers has expressed his desire to add ‘multi-dimensional’ players at the club in the transfer window as he looks to make reinforcements to the side for next season. Lallana can certainly be qualified as a versatile player- he can play anywhere in the midfield and also on the wings.
Liverpool do face competition for his signature as almost all of the Premier League biggies have been linked with him, notably Chelsea, Manchester United and Tottenham. The biggest threat would be Tottenham as reports indicate Daniel Levy being ready to spend the asked amount for the England international if the club get Mauricio Pochettino as their manager for next season.
