With Arsenal legend Thierry Henry calling time on his footballing career, let’s take a look at some of his greatest moments with the club.
1) That volley against Manchester United
This one needs no introduction, as it was perhaps one of the defining moments of Henry’s time at Arsenal. In a Premier League match against old foes Manchester United in the 2000/01 season, Thierry Henry scored a goal so spectacular even Sir Alex Ferguson had to tip his hat at it.
Coming into the match, the Frenchman was in a goal-drought, having not scored for six games! But you know what they say, form is temporary, class is permanent. And this dipping strike past countryman Fabien Barthez was pure class.
2) That goal celebration at Highbury
Special moments are made even sweeter if they happen to come against your archrivals. And so it was to be, when in a match against Tottenham Hotspur, Thierry Henry scored a remarkable goal to set Highbury alight. The Frenchman collected the ball in his own half, ran past a few players before producing the calmest of finishes in his trademark style. Sheer class.
Not just the goal, it was the celebration that was momentous. Years later, Henry’s knee-slide in front of the travelling Spurs fans would earn him a bronze statue outside the Emirates Stadium. It was literally history being created.
3) That hat-trick against Liverpool
The year was 2004 and in April, Arsenal were looking towards a treble-winning season with an FA Cup tie to Manchester United being followed by a trip to Chelsea in the Champions League. But the dreams of a treble were washed away as the Gunners lost to both United and Chelsea.
With the league title the only possible silverware available, all eyes were on Highbury as Liverpool came visiting. A response was expected from the home side. But the half-time score read 2-1 in Liverpool’s favour, and Arsenal’s season was starting to unravel in a horrible way.
Step forward, Thierry Henry.
The Frenchman scored two quick second half goals to seal the match for Arsenal 4-2. This was a huge win for the Gunners, as they recouped some of the lost momentum and went on to finish the season unbeaten in the league.
4) That kiss goodbye to Highbury
At the end of the 2005/06 season, it was revealed that Arsenal would bid farewell to their stadium of 93 years, Highbury, and move to the swanky new Emirates stadium. In a case of perfect timing, Henry chose to score a brilliant hat-trick in the last match on the ground against Wigan in May 2006.
After scoring the third goal, Henry kissed the turf as if to say goodbye. ai???That was the perfect send-off,ai??? he said afterwards.

5) That comeback goal against Leeds
Nobody saw this one coming, and perhaps that is why it is a special moment for Arsenal fans and Thierry Henry himself. Following injuries to key strikers, manager Arsene Wenger coaxed his former star into returning to the club on loan for a short spell.
While Henry agreed on a short loan move from his then current club, New York Red Bulls, many wondered whether the Frenchman would be able to live up to his own reputation. Another worry for the fans was the chance of Henry tarnishing his legacy with an ill-advised loan move.
But all worries were put to rest in January 2012 when Henry came off the bench to score yet another goal for Arsenal, in his trademark style.
