With Liverpool and Chelsea losing their respective matches on Saturday, Tottenham had the opportunity to close to gap at the top. But Everton are no push overs – only Manchester United and Manchester City have had better home record in recent times. Goodison Park has been fortress for Everton and Tottenham found it hard to grab anything from this game.
Tottenham started the match brightly though, and looked the likelier of two to score the opening goal. Andros Townsend looked threatening once again on the wings, although the end product of his running and passing lacked a bit in quality. Tottenham won the back the ball quickly from Everton and dominated possession for a long period, but the away side failed to capitalize on this domination and score a goal.
Everton came out with a bit more purpose in the second half and looked sharper. The introduction of Deulofeu and Barkley, provided them with a bit of spark, whereas the substitution of Sandro gave away the superiority Spurs had in the midfield. The home side created some good openings in this half, but were able to find the back of the net.
Hugo Lloris was close to be substituted in the game after the Frenchman was nearly knocked outAi?? by Lukakuai??i??s knee as both of them came together in the box. But after a long delay and a lot of medical attention, Lloris remained on the field ai??i?? although that decision has been widely criticized.
The match finished in a stalemate in the end as Everton continued their strong start to the season, while Tottenham missed the opportunity to grab the second place in the table. The London club are now five points behind league leaders Arsenal. But the bigger worry for Spurs at the moment is the lack of goals upfront. Andre Boas Villasai??i?? men have scored just six goals from open play so far this season in the Premier League, but the Portuguese manager has played down these stats and has expressed his delight about the teamai??i??s current position in the league.
“The chances are coming and sometimes they go your way and the opponent is not there to stop it.
“The team is creating more chances and more shots. I carry on about all the good statistics and others about all the negative, and there will be debate.
“At the moment it is results that have put us in fourth and into one of the spots in the Champions League.
“You can have more goals, less goals. We all want excitement but right now the team is doing extremely well.” ai??i?? The Tottenham Hotspur manager told the press.
Villas Boas also faced questions regarding the future of Adebayor and why he has been ignored despite the failure of other strikers to make a significant impact.
“There is competition for places and you have to try to break into the team.
“No matter how hard you try the others are trying as hard.
“He has to be patient and wait for the opportunity whenever it arises.
“That is the nature of every top club.

Dawson helped in maintaining the clean-sheet and was also a vital figure in building up play from the back. Dawson was brilliant at picking out Lennon with cross-field passes and the above image shows his wonderful passing range with which he controlled play down the wings.
