Manchester United manager David Moyes is looking to raid his former club Everton in January.
David Moyes is reportedly going to offer his old club Everton A?15 million plus Antonio Valencia for their sought-after left back Leighton Baines. The England international has been on Moyesai??i??s radar ever since he took over the Manchester United job, and his efforts to sign both Marouanne Fellaini and Baines for a combined A?36 million were thwarted over the summer. Fellaini was signed separately but Baines has eluded capture still.
However, Moyes believes Baines is looking for a move out of Goodison Park as he stalls signing a new contract with the Toffees. Baines is under contract until 2015 but Everton manager Roberto Martinez is said to be prepared to offer Baines a new long term contract that will essentially double his wages to A?70,000 a week. Baines, 28, had committed his future to Everton over the summer, but his stalling on signing a new contract has given Moyes hope that the left back might be looking for a new challenge.
Moyes has penciled in the left back position as his priority for now after observing the performances of Patrice Evra and his understudy Alex Buttner. Evra was not up to the mark in the Manchester derby and Buttner is thought to be too inexperienced to be a regular in the first team. Valencia seems to be deemed surplus to requirements by Moyes who prefers Nani over the Ecuadorian. Hence, Valencia might be sacrificed in a deal to bring Baines to Old Trafford.
Another manager keeping his ears open on this situation is Tottenhamai??i??s Andre Villas-Boas. Even with their massive spending over the summer, chairman Daniel Levy has indicated that there are funds for Villas-Boas to spend in January, and the Spurs boss is thought to be after a new striker and a left back. Baines would be an option for the London club, who are looking to cement their place in Englandai??i??s top four for next season.
David Moyes has another Evertonian on his wish list and this time itai??i??s a youngster. After Adnan Januzajai??i??s exploits at Sunderland, Moyes is looking to add more fresh blood in the United squad by preparing a bid for Evertonai??i??s talented youngster Ross Barkley. Moyes believes A?20 million would be enough to prise the 19 year old from his former club, and he is set to make a move in January. Moyes gave Barkley his debut at Everton and the teenager has impressed in his performances for Everton so far this season.
Manchester United have been long time admirers of Barkley, with Sir Alex Ferguson inquiring about him when he was 17. However, Moyes warned that signing future stars like Barkley would be the extent of Unitedai??i??s transfer activity in January:
