Tottenham Complete The Signing Of Erik Lamela And Vlad Chiriches

Tottenham Hotspur have completed their long awaited move for Romanian youngster Vlad Chiriches and AS Roma youngster Erik Lamela.

This has been an exciting summer for the Tottenham fans. Despite the prospect of losing Gareth Bale to Real Madrid, Spurs have successfully built a team which can compete with the likes of Manchester United and Chelsea on paper. They now the favourites to break into the top four ai??i?? with or without Bale.

Vlad Chiriches is a fine addition to the Spurs back-line, which was left short in numbers after the departure of William Gallas and Steven Caulker. The 23-year-old will now compete with the likes of Jan Vertonghen, Younes Kaboul and Michael Dawson for a place in the starting line-up. Chiriches is highly rated back in Romania and has drawn interest from a lot of clubs across Europe with his consistent performances for Steaua Bucuresti in the Europa League last season.

Chiriches has all the physical attribute to succeed in England. Moreover, he is extremely comfortable with the ball at this feet and is among the new breed of ball-playing defenders, much like Vertonghen. He is not afraid in move up the field and joining in attack and has also scored some scorching goals last season in Europe. He has developed this attribute as a result of playing as an midfielder and attacker for most his youth. He also starred in the semi-final defeat at the hands of Chelsea last season, scoring a goal at the Stamford Bridge. But it is this aggressive and adventurous nature of his which can act both as a strength and weakness for him. Chiriches is the type of defender that Andre Villas Boas prefers, although it is yet to be seen how much first team action he receives this season. The transfer fee involved in this deal is believed to be around A?8.5m and the Tottenham manager has already highlighted his attribute as a leader. The London club has also announced the arrival of Erik Lamela from Roma. The Argentine international was signed for a club record fee of A?26m and will take Spursai??i?? net spending across A?90m this summer. Lamela is a massive coup for Tottenham and will provide the creativity they have lacked in the midfield since the departure of Modric. Lamela has tremendous potential as a footballer and has been a revelation for Roma since joining them from River Plate back in 2011 ai??i?? so much so that Francesco Totti earmarked him as the player who will carry the baton after him – although that seems unlikely now, but it wonai??i??t be long for this 21-year-old to become a fan favourite at the White Hart Lane.
