The Croation has started just eight league games this season for the Spanish champions following his multi-milion pound move from Tottenham Hotspur this summer. Having been voted the worst La Liga signing for 2012, Modric has certainly struggled to adapt to life in Spain and Mourinho’s plans in particular. However, it is rumoured that Modric has had enough and wants to get his playing career on track and hence is seeking a move back to England where he became one of the best midfielders in the world during his time at White Hart Lane.
Modric’s supposed desire to leave has made the likes of Manchester United, City and Chelsea interested as there is no doubt that Modric’s addition will improve the strength of their respective squads manifolds. Chelsea had already had a real tussle with Spurs in the past before Harry Redknapp decided against selling him to the club’s London rivals. Also, Sir Alex Ferguson has always been a huge admirer of the diminutive midfielder and in fact looked at him as a long term replacement for Paul Scholes, while Roberto Mancini has expressed his admiration for Modric as well.
However, it seems unlikely that Real Madrid will let go of a top quality player in January with their hopes of a major trophy this season pinned on the Champions League. Although he has not yet made an impact this season, there no doubt about his ability as a footballer.
