Former Manchester United winger Cristiano Ronaldo has signed a lucrative 5-year deal worth 18 million Euros per year, after tax, to make him the best paid footballer on the planet. This has ended the speculation that Ronaldo will move away from the Spanish capital at the end of the 2014-2015 season. Rumours were flying around that he was ‘unhappy’ at Madrid and he would not rule out a move to his former club, Manchester United. Ai??It intensified, when he denied that he had signed a new contract with Real Madrid, in his twitter account.
His suitors, including Manchester United were preparing a deal to bring the Portuguese after his contract ended in 2015. This news comes as huge blow especially to the United fans, who were looking forward to see one of their most famous footballing sons back at Old Trafford in the future. It is even rumoured that Manchester United were looking to trigger the 1 billion Euro buyout clause to bring Ronaldo back to the ‘Theatre of Dreams.’
On the other hand, this might have been an emergency move from Real Madrid to boost his ego after he lost his ai???most expensive playerai??? tag to the Welsh winger Gareth Bale. This deal will make him the best paid footballer in the world and he will earn twice as much as his new team-mate Gareth Bale (who will earn around 9 million Euros per year). Ronaldo will also earn 1 million more than his Argentinean rival Lionel Messi.
Cristiano Ronaldo hinted during the media conference after his contract renewal that Manchester United and Paris St. Germain did show interest in him. He said that he did not know what the future held, whether he would stay at Real Madrid till he is 34, but wished that he would retire with the Los Blancos. Unconfirmed reports privately confirmed that if he did wish to leave the Spanish Capital, Old Trafford will be his preferred destination.
“Everyone knows that I was very happy at Manchester United for six years and it was a club that gave me everything. I am, and always will be, grateful, but Manchester United is my past, Real Madrid is my present. My home is here, my family and I am very happy,” Ronaldo said.
“I respect the clubs that knocked on the door to ask about me, but they know that my only goal was to play for Real Madrid. Maybe at the end of my career; I don’t know what the future holds but I am here and I am happy.”
