The latest transfer targets for Real Madrid for the January transfer window.
Real Madrid will be looking to strengthen their midfield in January with the signing of France midfielder Paul Pogba. The Juventus player was heavily linked with a move to Madrid over the summer, but nothing materialized due to Juventusai??i??s high valuation of the player and Pogbaai??i??s past rebellious record ai??i?? something not tolerated too much in Spain (Zlatan Ibrahimovic was quickly moved on by Barcelona to Serie A after one season due to his rebellious nature).
Pogba is seen as a future midfield general, replacing the likes of Xabi Alonso who is 31 and Sami Khedira, who is 26. Pogba, 20, has shown quality and pedigree beyond his years in the Juventus midfield and Florentino Perez might go after the Frenchman once the transfer window reopens. He will not be alone however, with Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho also keeping tabs on the situation. Mourinho may look to find a defensive midfielder who can protect his back four. He had Claude Makelele in this role during his first Chelsea stint and then Michael Essien. John Obi Mikel is not necessarily that type of powerhouse and a move for Pogba looks likely. Meanwhile, Paris St. Germain will also try to lure Pogba home, adding him to their already talented squad at the Parc des Princes. To top it all, Juve president Andrea Agnelli told La Gazzetta dello Sport that he doesnai??i??t think Juve has the strength to retain Pogba if an offer comes.
If Real fail to land Pogba, they might go for Chelseaai??i??s Brazilian midfielder Ramires. Carlo Ancelotti has been an admirer of the 26 year old and signed him when he was the manager at Stamford Bridge, would love to bring him to the Bernabeu. According to CaughtOffside.com, Madrid might be prepared to bid 40 million euros to bring him to the Spanish capital. Chelsea would like to hang on to their midifled dynamo, but might find it hard to resist a value north of 40 million euros.
Another player Madrid might be after is Manchester United captain Nemanja Vidic. With Raphael Varane struggling with injuries, Madrid want to strengthen their defence by bringing in a world class defender. Vidicai??i??s contract expires in the summer of 2014 and there is a possibility of bagging him on a free transfer. This news from Italian website Tuttosport comes on the back of the rumour that a Premier League club will bid in the region of 45 to 50 million euros for Real Madrid centre back Sergio Ramos. Ramos is the heartbeat of the Madrid team and it looks unlikely the deal will happen, but football agent Francois Gallardo has told Spanish TV show Punto Pelota that a bid will be made for the Spanish international.
Finally, Madrid are also in the market for a striker. With Karim Benzema not in the best of form, Real will look to add to their firepower and could go for Borussia Dortmund striker Robert Lewandowski. The Polish striker has an agreement to join Bayern Munich at the end of this season, but news from Munich is that coach Pep Guardiola is contemplating breaking this agreement. This piece of news has alerted the Madrid authorities who would want Lewandowski to lead their attack in place of Benzema.
