Nuri Sahin has revealed that he is glad to have left Liverpool FC and manager Brendan Rodgers after his unsuccessful loan spell at Anfield.
Nuri Sahin has found it hard to rediscover his best form ever since he left Dortmund back in 2011. Long spell on the side-lines with injuries along with lack of proper opportunity means his progress has footballer has taken a backseat since joining Real Madrid and during his short loan spell at Liverpool.
The midfielder was signed by Liverpool, right under the nose of Arsene Wenger, and he brought huge expectations along with him to Anfield. But only a handful of appearance later, he was loaned back to Dortmund as he failed to live up to those expectations. But it was apparent that Sahin was being played out of position in the three man midfield of Liverpool.
Brendan Rodgers sued the trio of Allen, Gerrard and Sahin in the midfield ai??i?? but it never worked out as Allen and Sahin wanted to play in the same position and they were too similar too work together. The Turkish international has now expressed his gladness over his departure from Liverpool and has questioned the Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers handled him during his stint at Anfield.
“I did not fail at Liverpool. Brendan Rodgers wanted me to play as a number 10. But I do not play behind the strikers.
“I talked to him and asked him why he was playing me there. It is not my real position. The coach could not answer me ai??i?? Still, no regrets. To play at Anfield was a wonderful experience. And maybe if I had not gone there I would not have been able to return to Borussia Dortmund. For that, I am happy. Thank God I have left Brendan Rodgers.” ai??i?? Sahin never had any real impact on the matches he played for Liverpool; was non existent on the pitch for most of the times. We did see glimpses of his brilliance, but if one has evaluate the player based on performance and not his legacy at Dortmund – he was ordinary. We have seen Joe Allen , Coutinho and Sturridge coming in and showing instant impact and great promise, Nuri Sahin could never do that in the Liverpool shirt.
However, yes Rodgers did try to play him a little forward, but not exactly on the number 10 spot. In fact, Liverpool do not play in that system – It is Suarez who actually used to drop deeper, to initiate the attack which explains the lack of goals in the first half of the season.
Sahin, has this tendancy to take that extra second on the ball, which is why he is not actually suited for the Liverpool of current who move the ball rather quickly, maintaining the possession. Even Real Madrid try to get to the opponents box as quickly as they can, with even lesser emphasis on the possession – probably because they have a bunch of players who are technically superior, something Rodgers is trying to emulate at Liverpool.
