“A bid was received yesterday and immediately rejected. Our position remains that he is not for sale“, read the statement issued by Manchester United.
In the immediate aftermath, Wayne Rooney was withdrawn from the squad to faceAi??AIK in Stockholm on Tuesday, and David Moyes said, “Wayne hurt his shoulder in a fall during a match on Saturday. It’s not too serious and I don’t expect it to keep him out for too long. I’m disappointed he’s missing the game because we were keen to get him back involved and ready to play.“

THT Verdict:Ai??The transfer is still hanging in the balance. The facts remain the same. Wayne Rooney isn’t happy at United and wants to move. United would ideally want a motivated Rooney on their roster but if they have to sell, they will understandably do everything in their capacity to not let him move to their direct Premier League rival such as Chelsea. Chelsea are interested in the player and Jose Mourinho has gone on record to state that Rooney is his only target this summer. United have so far rejected two official bids from Chelsea.
Now, Chelsea value the player atAi??A?25m but may be willing to go uptoAi??A?30m to secure his signature and not higher than that, considering the enormous wages that he’s bound to command upon the transfer, while Manchester United may have sold him to a foreign club for this value but are intent on pricing him out to prevent him from joining Chelsea. There appears to be a deadlock and only one person can resolve the tricky situation – Wayne Rooney himself. If he really wants to force a move, he can allow Chelsea to move closer to United’s asking price by taking a salary cut. At the same time, he can hand in a transfer request, thereby forgoing his bonus, and making the transfer seem more plausible that it presently is.
