Man United Linked With Inter Milan Defender

Manchester United are reportedly interested in signing Inter and Italian defender Andrea Ranocchia this summer.

In a way, the reports suggesting that Premier League champions Manchester United are interested in signing Andrea Ranocchia are highly surprising to say the least, especially because it comes after one of his worst seasons, personally, in his recent career. Ranocchia started out as a talented youngster for Arezzo and was touted as the future of Italian national team in the coming years. He has somehow stagnated a bit as a footballer, now at the age of 25, he was expected to develop into the base on which the Inter defence will be built upon and yet he has regressed.

This season, Inter had one of the worst defensive records in Serie A, conceding 57 goals in 38 matches (second worst behind Pescara). Although it must be pointed out that Ranocchia wasnai??i??t exactly in good company in the defence. He certainly had a better season than the likes of Juan Jesus or Walter Samuel. It is fair to say, he didnai??i??t receive much help from his central defensive partners. The 25-year-old has also faced a lot of injuries in the recent past.

But it is still a testimonial to his undoubted potential that two of the biggest clubs in Europe have been linked with him in past two weeks ai??i?? Juventus and now Manchester United. Juventus are reportedly preparing a bid of ai??i??15 million euros for the Italian center back. The Serie A champions are looking to bring him in to strengthen their defense, which it must be mentioned, already has a solid backbone. Two years back, one could have considered Ranocchia to be better than Bonucci but now the 26-year-old has made tremendous progress. So if this move does take place, it is hard to see Ranocchia breaking into the first team with ease.

Manchester United on the other hand already have a lot of center backs in their squad. But Rio Ferdinand is nearing the fag end of his career, while Vidic, at 31 has a lot fitness concerns. Evans, Jones and Smalling are expected to be regulars at the United defence in near future as they take on the baton from these two stalwarts. Rannochia will certainly be a good addition, but once again, he is unlikely to see any first team action for United, unless there is a big injury crisis.

So a move to either of these two clubs can prove to be a bad decision for Ranocchia. He might be playing in a weaker team, but he will get regular first team action at Inter, which is important at this point in his career and would certainly boost his chances to make it to the Italian squad for the World Cup.
