Liverpool Are Eyeing A Move For Sporting Winger

Liverpool FC are reportedly lining up a move for Sporting winger Diego Capel in the summer.

The 25-year-old has found it hard to settle down in Portugal following his move from Seville back in 2011. The Spaniard, who was signed for ai??i??3.5 million, hasnai??i??t lived up to his billing and reports back in January claimed that the club were looking to offload him. Although Capel has dismissed those rumours back then, Sporting are currently financial problems and will look to cash in on the winger in the summer.

Liverpool have shown interest in landing Capel, who has earned two caps for the national team back in 2008. In fact the Reds were interested in him during his Seville days with Rafa Benitez being a big fan of the winger.

Capel, who started his youth career at Barcelona before joining Seville, has a strong left-foot and can play either as a left midfielder or on the left of a front three. So could fit into Brendan Rodgersai??i?? system at Liverpool with ease. But given is poor run of form this season, it could well prove to be risk for the Merseyside club.

Interestingly, Capel has a ai??i??30 million releaseAi??in his contract, and it is safe to say that Sporting will be willing to accept a much lower bid than that. Reports suggest that Brendan Rodgers will be handed over a A?20m transfer budget this summer, hence Capel could be a viable option as Sporting could let go of the winger for a transfer fee of ai??i??5 million.

Tottenham Hotspur were initially linked with Capel before he made a move to Sporting and it would be interesting to see if they renew their interest as the Portuguese club looks to offload the winger. Although he has fallen of the radar lately, during his days in Spain, he was subject of interest from Real Madrid (who considered him as a replacement for Robinho), Barcelona and Juventus.

Capel would also look for greener pastures in order to bring himself back in contention for a place in the Spanish national team. But it would be interesting to see where Capel fits into the Liverpool squad as Rodgers do have plenty of options when one considers the left forward/winger role presently with Downing returning to form and Sterling on the bench; even Coutinho has been used in that role lately.
