Liverpool FC have entered the race to sign Manchester City striker Carlos Tevez.
The Merseyside club are reportedly preparing for life without striker Luis Suarez. The Uruguayan international, who was Liverpoolai??i??s most influential player last season as well as the top scorer of the side, has already stated his desire to leave the club in the summer, with Real Madrid being touted as his possible destination.
Suarezai??i??s possible departure is sure to leave a big hole upfront with Sturridge and Borini being the only other options available to Brendan Rodgers. Liverpool will be in the market for a striker and they have already been linked with Luis Muriel. But latest reports from England suggest that Brendan Rodgers is interested in signing Manchester City striker Carlos Tevez.
Tevez, who joined City from local rivals Manchester United back in 2009, has had an eventful career at the club so far. While the Argentine international was massively influential in the first two seasons, the last two seasons have been largely overshadowed by controversies and injuries. But he was perhaps one of Manchester Cityai??i??s best players in the second half of the last season and looks back to his best once again.
City are expected to undergo a complete overhaul this summer, after enduring a disappointing season, and Tevezai??i??s future at the club is currently in doubts. The 29-year-old has only a year left in his current contract and City are yet to offer him an extension. Juventus, and now Liverpool, are reportedly closely monitoring his situation at the club and are believed to be in pole position to sign him this summer.
It is believed that, if Tevez refuses to extend his current contract, Manchester City might be forced to sell him for a bargain price of around ai??i??10m, in order to cut down on their wage bill. While the transfer fee is affordable for Liverpool, Tevezai??i??s wage will certainly be a big hurdle. Tevez, who is currently on a ai??i??232,000-a-week contract, will have to take a massive pay-cut to join either Liverpool or Juventus. It is being reported that Liverpool are prepared to offer him a ai??i??117,000-a-week contract ai??i?? which is nearly half of his current wage. Juventus though, will be able to offer him a better salary. So it might all come down to whether Tevez decides to stay in the Premier League or experience something new at this point in his career.
Hypothetically, Tevez could be the ideal replacement for Suarez. The Argentine international, on his day, is one of the best forwards in the world. Apart from a fantastic goal-scoring record in the Premier League, he brings in a lot of other qualities as well. He might be an unpredictable character off the pitch, but on it, he works his heart out for his side. Liverpool fans will be hoping that there is some truth in this rumour, because if Tevez arrives at Anfield, chances are, they might not even miss Suarez next season.
