Rumour has it that Real Madrid will return in January to land Luis Suarez.
Transfer Latest -Ai??Liverpool are prepared for a January bid by Real Madrid for their top striker. Madrid were interested in Suarez over the summer but gave up on their pursuit once they set their eyes on Gareth Bale and keeping in mind the massive amount they spent on the Welshman. But it looks like Los Blancos are ready to offer A?45 million for the Uruguayan.
Liverpool are said to insist on letting their striker go only if they match their summer valuation of A?55 million for Suarez. This was the amount Liverpool were thought to have been looking for to let Suarez go a couple of months ago. However, this valuation may change come January, depending on the form of the player and where Liverpool find themselves in the Premier League table. Suarez might have a change in heart if Liverpool are seriously challenging for the title in January, which could up his asking price. If Suarez continues to play the same way he has his valuation could go up. His performance against Crystal Palace today only underlines that fact.
Madrid themselves may not want Suarez if they are happy with their attacking firepower of Cristiano Ronaldo, Gareth Bale and Karim Benzema. The French forward is said to leave in January and is being linked with a reunion with Jose Mourinho at Chelsea. The forward has bene a disappointment so far in the white of Madrid and could be looking for a move. Should that be the case, Madrid would go all out to sign Suarez. Liverpool might up the asking price if Benzema decides to leave.
Another club that was interested in Suarez over the summer was Arsenal. Arsene Wengerai??i??s squad is seriously thin on striking options. Should Olivier Giroud find himself sidelined for a long term, Wenger would have to buy a striker in January. He is said to be keeping tabs on Benzema, but Suarez is the man he really wants. Arsenal spent a A?42.5 million fortune on Mesut Ozil when it became clear the Luis Suarez deal will not happen and would need to look deep into their pockets once again if they want to lure the Uruguayan to London.
Either way, as things stand, Liverpool hold all the cards and would do all they can to keep the striker. They have stood by the Uruguayan in tough times and would not like to see their investment go for cheap, although Suarez is still interested in a move to Madrid, if his agent Pere Guardiola is to be believed. One man who is delighted Suarez is still at the club is Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard who thinks he made the right choice by sticking around:
‘When you have a player as good as Luis Suarez, you know that the big clubs are going to want him,’ said Gerrard, as reported by Sky Sports.
‘I was waking up every morning, hoping that nothing would happen and that he would still be here.
‘Nobody tried harder than me to make him stay and he knows exactly what I think of him. I knew if we could keep him here, the better our chances would be.
‘He is a special type of footballer and he gives us something different. When the club got the message to him that they were not going to sell him, he got his head down and has worked hard.’
