Brendan Rodgers is a popular figure in the youth establishment at Liverpool. Why, you ask? It is because he gives young players ample of chances to get a feel of first team football and figure out what the Premier League hullabaloo is all about. In the northern Irishmanai??i??s first season as the Redsai??i?? manager, especially in the former part of the season, he had three players from the youth side regularly featuring in the squad, two of whom had plenty of starts to boast about. On loan to Derby County this season, Andre Wisdom made 12 starts in the Premier League last time for Liverpool while Jamaican born Englishman Raheem Sterling earned 19 starts for Liverpool last season. Suso made his Premier League debut when came on for Rodgersai??i?? Liverpool in the form of a substitution against Manchester United. He made a total of 14 appearances for Liverpool in the EPL last season, sometimes playing as an attacking midfielder, and sometimes on either flanks as a winger. In the Europa League, Suso featured four times and managed to grab an assist against Udinese.
After a promising start to the season, The Spaniard did not have considerable statistical assuring in the forms of goals or assists that would promise him of getting regular outings on the pitch. And after the arrival of Coutinho, his almost certain spot on the bench was also not guaranteed.
After Liverpoolai??i??s dismal performance in starting of the League last season, Rodgers had a positive 2013. This meant that Liverpool could attract exciting talents in the summer transfer window and hope for a bright 2013-14 campaign. The addition of the exciting Luis Alberto from Sevilla was the one which meant that Suso would not get a lot of time on the field. Alberto, while only a year elder than his new teammate, is more seasoned than him, having played regularly for Barcelona B on loan last season and also finishing as the second top scorer in the squad.
Brendan Rodgers made the right move in deciding to loan out one of Liverpoolai??i??s most exciting talents to newly promoted La Liga side Almeria. The Liverpool manager was right in understanding that a player with that kind of potential should not rot on the bench and should get ninety minutes on the pitch every week to develop further as a footballer. What better way to do that than send the player to a side where he would definitely get that amount of time on the pitch?
The Cadiz born Spaniardai??i??s debut was against fellow-promoted side Villareal. While his club lost 3-2, the Liverpool loanee had something to cheer about. He was part of the temporary revival for his club as he managed to assist the second goal which saw his team lead 2-1 ahead briefly.Ai?? His assist was also a classy one. He received the ball on the right side and quicky cut inside after which he delivered just the right cross to an awaiting Rodri, who netted the ball comfortably.
Susoai??i??s second league game for the Spanish club saw Almeria play Luis GarcAi??aai??i??s Getafe. It was again a Suso effort that led to the opening goal of the match. He delivered the most perfectly weighed through-ball for Rodri to latch on in the box and fire it home. This one, in particular is the kind of pass every player dreams of making; much similar to Jordan Hendersonai??i??s pass to Suarez for the third goal against Fulham last weekend. Throughout the match, the youngster looked highly threatening. His effort at the goal was impressive and it just a little wide of the post. He could have had another assist in the match as Alex Vidal latched on to another one of his classy passes, but could not turn it into a goal.
On 21st September 2013, he scored his first goal for Fransico RodrAi??guezai??i?? Almeria against Levante. So far, the 19 year old has five assists and a goal to his name in 11 appearances he has made for the side. Only Koke, Neymar and Cesc Fabregas have more assists than the Liverpool on-loan man.
The youngsterai??i??s strength, as has been illustrated in all his first performances for the Andalusian club so far, is undoubtedly his vision. The player has the potential of threading the most exquisite passes to strikers that even veteran players canai??i??t implement at times. So young, he has a ai???golden left footai??i??, and a repertoire of techniques. It is difficult to snatch the ball from him as he is capable of holding on to it extremely well.
Suso has been an absolute gem for Almeria this season and while it is clear that Almeriaai??i??s optimistic goal would be to finish in the mid-table, it is realistic that all they might want to do this season is avoid relegation. For either of that to happen, the Merseyside clubai??i??s loanee is going to be the key man.
Brendan Rodgers was spot on in sending out the youngster on loan. The destination too was the right one. The fact that Almeria need to work hard in every match to even salvage a point means that Suso, who has been given the responsibility of being the playmaker-in-chief, has to work even harder.
There is no questioning of the skill he possesses. The point of sending him on the loan was to develop him as a player, to sound him better mentally as well and so far, it looks like Liverpool will get the most finished product next season.
