Liverpool FC Transfers – Rodgers Wants Michu, Suarez Contract Update

A look at the players Brendan Rodgers has in mind for the January transfer window.

Liverpool FC boss Brendan Rodgers will try to build upon his teamai??i??s good start to the season by spending in January. He reportedly has his eyes set on Swansea City attacker Michu, who has impressed the Reds’ boss. The 27 year old Spaniard joined Michael Laudrupai??i??s Swansea for A?2.2 million last season from Rayo Vallecano, but after having scored 27 goals from 54 games for the Swans and earning a call up to the Spanish national team, his valuation is bound to soar.

Swans chairman Huw Jenkins believes Liverpool will have to bid at least A?30 million for the Welsh side to even contemplate letting Michu go. The talented Spaniard could link up with Luis Suarez and Daniel Sturridge in a potent three man attack for the Reds. Another man interested in Michu is Arsenal FC boss Arsene Wenger, who is closely monitoring the situation. Arsenal are already short of strikers this season and should an injury occur to Olivier Giroud, are not well positioned to replace him competently.

Michu, however, is concentrating on joining up with the Spain national team, calling it an honour to be part of that elite group:

“Every Spanish footballer dreams of this and it’s so difficult. Few people can wear the shirt of the best team in the world.

“Let’s see if fortune is with me and I can play, although I’m already grateful to be called up.”

Rodgers is also looking to sign Atletico Madridai??i??s highly rated youngster Koke. The 21 year old midfielder is highly regarded and is seen as a future playmaker for the Spanish national side. Koke has already scored two goals in seven appearances for Atletico this season and has been a part of Atleticoai??i??s fine start to the La Liga season. He has been called up to Spain’s national side thrice.

Meanwhile, Liverpool will consider extending Luis Suarezai??i??s contract at the end of the season. The Uruguayan wanted to leave Anfield over the summer but has since knuckled down and stayed put, scoring three goals in three games since his return from suspension. Brendan Rodgers would like to hang on to Suarez, though the Uruguayanai??i??s compatriot Edinson Cavani still believes Suarez wants to leave for Real Madrid, saying that Los Blancos are Suarezai??i??s ai???dream clubai???.

Liverpool managing director Ian Ayre spoke about the possibilities of a new deal for Suarez:

“It’s too early to say that. We deal with every player in the same way. We review all our contracts with two years to go.

“Anfield never fell out of love with Luis Suarez. He is at his best when he is playing football and scoring goals. His record speaks for itself.
