Liverpool FC striker Luis Suarez continues his brilliant start to the season by winning the FSF award while club vice captain Daniel Agger is wanted at Napoli.
LiverpoolAi??forward, Luis Suarez continued his bright start to the campaign, now being awarded the Football Supporter Federation (FSF) Player of the Year award. The Uruguyan was nominated alongside Leighton Baines, Christian Benteke, Juan Mata, Robin van Persie and Pablo Zabaleta, with more than 500,000 people voting in the award.
The award was presented at Arsenalai??i??s Emirates stadium and created quite a hullabaloo among Arsenal fans on social media outlets, who clearly thought Premier Leagueai??i??s top scorer was in Arsenalai??i??s territories for transfer purpose.
In the interview conducted afterwards, Suarez said that it is yet too soon to determine whether the Reds will win the Premier League or not:
I think it’s too early to say. If we continue this level the next two or three weeks we can win the league or we can finish in the top four. It’s important we concentrate and focus on the next game. We know that after Cardiff we have two very, very big games. That will be important to what comes next.
Suarez was asked what his best moment was in the past, difficult year to which he answered ai???Coming back to play in Anfieldai??i?? after the summer.
Coming back to play at Anfield: because after so many difficult moments for me I was able to win the supporters back, and that was unbelievable when I came back to play. They helped me, and that was important for me, for my confidence, and for my family, because they are together with me in this.
Asked about what the award meant to him, the Uruguayan answered:
It’s very special for me because my hard work on the pitch is recognised. Everybody knows about my problems and my difficult year, but after that I forgot everything and have been able to get back on the pitch.
He said that this award was all his teammates and the management at Liverpool:
If Liverpool don’t have these players I cannot continue my level, because it’s too much. They know I am important, so they try everything to stay together, that’s important for me, but it’s more important for the club.
Asked about what he felt about being chosen as the man to lead Liverpool in the absence of Steven Gerrard:
It was a surprise because we have a lot of players- of high level and who have played here for many years. But we have only captain- Steven Gerrard.
Daniel Agger to Napoli?
Liverpoolai??i??s Daniel Agger has found himself mostly on the bench this season, with manager Brendan Rodgers having four centre backs to choose from. With Skrtel rejuvenated and marquee signing Madamou Sakho impressing in the last two outings, it may be a while before the Denmak captain is part of the starting line-up for the Reds.
Ex- Liverpool boss wants to exploit the situation by calling Agger on loan to Serie A club Napoli in the winter window for the rest of the season, and purchasing him from the Merseyside giants in the summer. It seems that the Naples managementAi??contacted Liverpool on Monday regarding a temporary deal for the 29-year-old when the transfer window reopens.
Rafa Bentitez needs a strong centre back for Serie A success, and Agger will fit the bill as he is both experienced and able as a centre back.
It remains unsure if Rodgers will want Agger to go in the middle of the season. He clearly wants a strong squad and Aggerai??i??s departure will make a void. However, summer freebie Kolo Toure also remains an option for centre back.
Agger has shown complete club loyalty by refusing La Liga giants Barcelona in the past. But the Danish defender will be frustrated with the lack of opportunities he has got so far, and the prospect of reuniting with former boss Benitez, will be an inviting one.
