Liverpool FC beat Crystal Palace to go back to the top of the table as Luis Suarez and Daniel Sturridge get on the score sheet.
Luis Suarez marked his return to Anfield in the league with a well taken goal, as the Kop warmed up to him once again. Liverpool started the match brightly with Luis Suarez finishing off a wonderful move in the 13th minute of the game. The goal was mostly down to Suarezai??i??s persistence and determination, despite losing his footing inside the box.
It took only four minutes for Liverpool to double their lead as Daniel Sturridge scored with a wonderful individual effort. Suarez and Sturridge was displaying telepathic understand between each other and the Crystal Palace defence struggled to contain them.
Raheem Sterling, who was deployed as the right wing back in this game, won a penalty in the 38th minute of the game as Dean Moxey fouled the Englishman. But replay showed that the foul was committed outside the box and Sterling fell inside the box due to his momentum. Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard stepped up and converted the resultant spot kick. At this point of the match it seemed like this match could head towards an embarrassing score line for Crystal Palace, but the away team came back into the match in the second half and restricted Liverpool in attack.
The away team also managed to grab a goal in the second as youngster Dwight Gayle scored from a free kick. It was perhaps a deserved goal for their performance in the second half and gave a respectable look to the score line.
Liverpool manager was delighted with his sideai??i??s performance, especially in the first half, but also praised Crystal Palace for showing enough spirit in the second half of the game.
“It was an excellent first half and we got the three goals and could have had two more.
“Some of our play in the attacking third was exceptional and we created a number of chances.
“Second half is always difficult when you are comfortable in a game, we wanted to go and push on in the second half and it didn’t quite materialise and you have to give credit to Crystal Palace.
“I think Ian’s side worked very hard in the second half and align that with some of our loose passing but overall it is three points and that is the aim and we are pleased with the result and hope to improve on our performance level.” ai??i?? The Liverpool manager said after the match.
Rodgers was also full of praise for Luis Suarez and Daniel Sturridge.
“It typifies the man, he gives 100 per cent and tripped over in the box and got himself to the ball and scooped it in.
“I thought him and Daniel Sturridge were exceptional up there today and particularly in the first half and you could see the link-up play they have that telepathic idea of where they are and it is great to see and very encouraging.
“I believe top players are often on the same wave length and them two are.” ai??i?? He added.
