Man Of The Match: Luis Suarez
Liverpool arguably produced the performance of the day with this convincing win over a West Brom side that have been fairly competitive this season. A hat-trick from Luis Suarez and a wonder strike from Daniel Sturridge gave them a comfortable 4-1 victory.
Luis Suarez started the match on fire as he scored two wonderful goals within the first 17 minutes. The first of those two came in the 12th minute as the Uruguayan international waltzed through the West Brom defence and scored past Myhill. If the first goal was an exhibition of his footwork and ball control, the second was a proof of his heading capabilities. Cissokhoai??i??s cross from the left was wonderfully headed home by Suarez.
West Brom created few chances of their own, but didnai??i??t come close to scoring past Mignolet. In the second half Liverpool came out strongly once again and extended their lead with a third goal. Steven Gerrardai??i??s wonderful free-kick was headed into the back of the net by an unmarked Luis Suarez. The 26-year-old completed an amazing hat-trick and has been in brilliant form since his return from suspension. But it must be noted that West Bromai??i??s defending was non-existent in that goal and Steve Clarke would have been very disappointed with that effort.
In the 66th minute of the game West Brom managed to pull one back as James Morrison scored from the spot. The penalty was awarded after Aly Cissokho fouled Billy Jones inside the box. But it turned out to be consolatory goal as just 11 minutes later Liverpool restored their three goals advantage. Daniel Sturridge scored with an amazing chip as he caught Myhill off the line. Suarez might have grabbed all the headlines with that wonderful hat-trick but Sturridge made left his mark as well with that amazing strike.
Brendan Rodgers was delighted with his sideai??i??s performance and heaped praises on Suarez and Sturridge. He is also now looking forward to the top of the table clash between Liverpool and Arsenal next week.
“We were outstanding today. West Brom are a very good side, they went to Old Trafford and won, so for us to score four goals – and could have had a few more – it was an outstanding team performance. When you have the two boys up front, and that attacking threat, it’s fantastic. We’re disappointed with the penalty decision but other than that we’re very pleased.
“Luis Suarez and Daniel Sturridge are very hard to contain. Both of them have different qualities and both are goalscorers. I thought our midfield three today were excellent. We’re just looking to keep improving, not getting carried away, and the boys at the top end did their job and got the goals. It should be a brilliant game (against Arsenal) next week.” ai??i??
