A statement released from Parma Football Clubai??i??s official website read,
“Parma can announce the signing of Antonio Cassano from Inter with some satisfaction and officially welcome the player into the Gialloblu family.”
Cassano did not enjoy best of the times in his one year spell at Inter. Having started the season on a positive note, he was unsurprisingly sidelined towards the end with recurring injuries and an apparent drop in form. The Bari product had caused much of an uproar among Milan fans when he jumped off what was supposedly a sinking ship for what he believed were greener pastures. Cassano had made several remarks about the club citing its lack of ambitions that did not go too well with the Curva Sud.
His fitness was always a major concern and having him in the dressing room was a big gamble in itself for Inter. And Cassano did not do his reputation too much harm with his impulsive and scatterbrained behaviour that once saw him in a scuffle with the then Inter manager Andrea Stramaccioni. The new manager Walter Mazzarri did not have an ageing and even more unpredictable Cassano in his plans and the club did not waste time in getting rid of him at the first offer.
After learning his football in Bari, Cassano has represented teams like AS Roma, Real Madrid and Sampdoria and it will be fair to suggest, he hasnai??i??t exactly won friends anywhere. His tumultuous relationship with Fabio Capello is particularly famous; so much so that the legendary Italian coach had coined a neologism called ai???Cassanataai??i?? for any behaviour that is deemed unsuitable for a team sport practitioner.
During his time at Milan, Cassano had lost out on a major part of the 2011-12 season due to a cerebral damage that he had suffered from and the consequent heart surgery had kept him away from competitive football for nearly eight months. However, he had made his comeback in a very impressive manner winning hearts of the Milan fans and also secured a place in Italyai??i??s Euro 2012 squad. After the tournament though, Cesare Prandelli has not considered Cassano in his plans and this is perhaps the last chance for Fantantonio to have another shout at the national team call-up. He is expected to find regular first team action at Parma, provided he doesnai??i??t invite his way any undesirable trouble.
As far as Inter are concerned, this is a good decision in the best interest of both the parties. Inter do have ambitions to reclaim some lost pride in the next season and they need an influx of energy and fresh legs. The inevitable arrival of Belfodil in exchange for Cassano might prove to be beneficial for them as the season progresses. Cassano however, in retrospect, might want to correct his decision to leave Milan just when his playing career was seemingly getting back on track.
