Transfer Rumour Of The Day : Manchester United Wants Arsenal Winger To Replace Nani

Manchester United are interested in signing Arsenal winger Theo Walcott, according to reports in caughtoffside.

The future of Theo Walcott has been up for speculation since the England international rejected Arsenalai??i??s offer of a contract extension at the start of this season. Walcott is into the last year of his contract and will be free to negotiate a move to other clubs in January, if the Gunners fail to bind him with a new contract by then.

While initial reports claimed that Walcott has demanded a rise in wages, but the Englishman later revealed that he is only looking for an assurance to play first team football more regularly and he also wants an opportunity to play as a striker in the club. But since then, he has often been ignored by Wenger and has been used mostly as a substitute in the League and Europe.

English clubs like Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester City, along with Italian giants Juventus, have been linked with a move for Walcott in January; Manchester United seems to be latest name added to that list.

Caughtoffside reports, Sir Alex Ferguson is looking to replace Nani with Theo Walcott during the winter transfer window. Nani, like Walcott, has been in the news for rejecting contract extension offers from the club as they donai??i??t meet his demands. The Portuguese winger has seen limited first team action this season as Sir Alex seemed to have lost his patience with him. Nani is expected to leave the club in January with Zenit and a host of Italian clubs being interested in him. Sir Alex is also believed to be worried about the fitness of Ashley Young and Valencia, and hence he wants to strengthen that department of the squad.

But this rumour is as dead in the water as it gets; it has little chance of materializing. Firstly, Theo Walcott has repeatedly stated his desire to stay at the club and after his performance in the League cup against Reading it looks likely that Arsenal will hand him over the contract he desires. Secondly, even if Arsenal fail to do so and Walcott is sold in January, it is unlikely that the board will want to incur the wrath of the fans by selling a player to United yet again especially after what happened during the Robin van Persie transfer saga this season. Also the fact that Theo desperately wants to play the role of a striker in the team, makes this move even more impractical, as United already have a host of strikers in their squad and Walcott is even unlikelier to feature as a striker for the Red Devils. Any transformation from a winger to a striker can realistically only take place at Arsenal, under Arsene Wenger.

So the Gooners shouldnai??i??t really worry about losing Walcott to United. This is just another example of a classic work of fiction.
