After coming back strongly into the I-League following a years hiatus, Sporting Clube de Goa would be relatively pleased with an 8th place finish although by their own admission they could have done much better. After assembling a decent squad this season, Flaming Oranje would have at least expected a top five finish; however a leaky defense meant that they had to settle forAi??8th position.
They also had a fourth place finish in the Goa League to their credit to add to their semi-final appearance in the GFA Knockout Cup and the winners trophy in the GFA U-20 League. What was heartening to watch however, was the performance of their young players who definitely have a promising future ahead of them.

The South Sudan striker after his move from the Bangladesh League was a revelation for Sporting in his first season in India. His aerial ability caught the attention of everyone and he scored a number of goals with his head. His towering presence also gave defenders a tough time. His 16 goals almost accounted for one third of Sportingai??i??s total goals.
Top Performers Of The Season
Ai??Ogba Kalu
After his average 2010-11 season with Dempo, Kalu made amends by having an above average season with the Flaming Oranje. He was a beast in the midfield – breaking down attacks, spraying passes, linking with attack and defense and even scored twelve goals in the League. He reportedly came to Sporting at a very low price, which surely makes him one of the smartest and value for money buys of the season.
Keita Boubacar
The Guinean defender was the standout performer in defense for Sporting. If not for him, Sporting would have conceded more than 43 goals. In the games that he missed, the Sporting defense had holes as big as the Grand Canyon. He played a stellar role for them last year too, helping them qualify for the I-League and continued his good performance this season too.
Adil Khan
The young Adil had a fantastic season for Sporting Clube de Goa that helped him earn a national team call up. The versatile player played all over the park, filling in at center back, center midfield and even on the flanks. His composed attitude on the field made him a coachai??i??s favorite. Age is on his side and he can definitely improve his game a notch higher and play for many years.

This definitely has to be one of the positives of the season for Flaming Oranje. They became the first club in India to release their anthem ai???Flaming Orangeai??? and also launched their mascot ai???Zumbaai???. They also organized an U-12 football tournament for schools that was held two hours before kick of on all their home games. Their half time entertainment program titled ai???Sportainmentai??? which included contest like ai???3 Minutes To Fameai??? brought out various hidden talents in Goa.
Most Disappointing Player Of The Season
Park Jae Hyun
The Korean was a wasteful buy for Sporting and hardly featured in any of the games for Flaming Oranje. He arrived rather late in January to fill the vacant Asian player quota at Sporting but hardly made a mark and subsequently didnai??i??t feature in the remaining matches for Sporting.

Ai??Sporting Clube de Goa 2-1 Mohun Bagan
Beating the Mariners at home would definitely rank as one of the standout performances for Sporting this season. After a barren first half, Keita Boubacar put Sporting ahead in the 65th minute but six minutes later Bagan were on level terms after Rakesh Masih blasted home from an acute angle. Sporting though had the last laugh when Ogba Kalu headed home from close range to help his team grab all three points. Sportingai??i??s 7-0 win against HAL on the final day of the season would also rank high in their list of best games.
Worst Match Of The Season
Churchill Brothers 5-0 Sporting Clube de Goa
Their 0-5 hammering of Churchill Brothers was the worst without a doubt the performance of the season for Sporting. Defensively Sporting were woeful that day and Moga and co. looked a shadow of themselves up front. N.D.Opara scored a hat trick for Churchill and Bineesh Balan chipped in with two goals to hand Sporting heir worst drubbing of the season.

Joyner Lourenco v Dempo
A 45-yard stunner from young Joyner Lourenco definitely has to be the best goal that Sporting scored all season. In stoppage time, substitute Joyner spotted Dempo keeper Laxmikant Kattimani off his line and shot over him to score one of the goals of the season. That goal was worthy of a winner but unfortunately for Joyner, Sporting failed to get past Dempo in that game.
