The Dutchman came on as a substitute against Wigan Athletic, in his second match. The Latics were trailing by 2-1, pressed hard for an equalizer. In the 97th minute, Drenthe dashed all their hopes with a neat, calm finish. Goodison faithful knew that was first of many good things to come from him this season. He provided the assist for Phil Neville in the 13th minute of extra time to break West Bromai??i??s heart. He made 20 appearances so far (10 as a sub) ai??i?? scored three goals and provided five assists. A Real value for money-making significant impact for the Toffees.

Steve Bruce, ex-Sunderland and Birmingham didnai??i??t hesitate to pounce on the opportunity of signing one of the most talented players in theAi??Premier league under the Bosman ruling. Talk about impact, he produced a mesmerizing first-timed angled volley against Liverpool in the opening day of the season. His boot did the magic again few weeks later, a Beckham-esque free-kick gave Sunderland their first league triumph at the Stadium of Light against Stoke City. He left Arsene Wenger nodding his head in disbelief when at the Emirates another free-kick went in. The Frenchman said ai???maybe the best in the league as a free-kick-takerai??? and thatai??i??s a huge compliment.
8. Mikel Arteta (Arsenal) ai??i?? Central Midfielder (A?10M signing from Everton)

Call him ai???Poor manai??i??s Cesc Fabregasai??i?? but his contribution in turning Arsenalai??i??s corner is invaluable. The position Arsenal were in ai??i?? departure of two key players, humiliating defeat at Old Trafford, the teamAi??sinking without truce not withstanding their youthful precocity ai??i?? not only his contribution steadied the ship but helped sailing it too. Artetaai??i??s inclusion therefore borders on subjectivity. He brought a wealth of experience in the middle of the park, gave solidity to a fragile midfield (remember, Arsenal were without Wilshere throughout the season), provided Van Persie a supporting hand in terms of goals and assists and overall gave Arsenal a new belief that they can reach top four. Now, we can sit back and say ai???Oh, I told yea, they will pip Spursai??i?? ai??i?? but this transformation, rejuvenation was a slap in the face for all those who doubted Arsenal and who doubted Wengerai??i??s signings of which the Spaniard is an integral part.
7. Yohan Cabaye (Newcastle) ai??i?? Central Midfielder (A?4.5M signing from Lille)
Newcastleai??i??s season is a fairy tale journey and Yohan Cabaye is one of the protagonists of the story. Crisis loomed at St. James Park before the season started. Top players of Newcastle ai??i?? Carroll, Enrique, Nolan and Barton were sold and everyone tipped them as a sure-shot relegation candidate. Pardew made Cabaye the fulcrum of his team and he didnai??i??t disappoint. He is a gifted player who possesses energy, vision, superb passing range, excellent ball control and outstanding technical abilities. The Frenchman took no time in settling at the heart of the midfield forming a great partnership with Chiek Tiote. His presence exuded extra confidence to the rest of the squad. Getting a player of his caliber and with that price is simply remarkable.
6. Michel Vorm (Swansea) ai??i?? Goal Keeper (A?1.5M signing from FC Utrecht)
Is there any doubt in anyoneai??i??s mind that Vorm is not the best keeper in Premier League right now? If yes, then shrug it off right now. Stats will speak for the Dutchman – played 28 games, kept 12 clean sheets and made 108 saves.
Joe Hart of Manchester City has 12 clean sheets under his belt too. But, it has to be kept in mind that the England International is backed up by the best defence in England. Same canai??i??t be said about Swansea and therefore Vormai??i??s stats say a lot about his heroic efforts. He has conceded four goals in his debut against a ruthless City, but then again he made eleven saves that day, more than any other goal keeper of Premiership in a single game. His performance at Anfield was stunning, producing few miraculous saves that left Dalglish goading ai???inspired goalkeepingai???.
5. Scott Parker (Tottenham Hotspur) ai??i?? Central Midfielder (A?5.5M from West Ham)

Few eyebrows were raised when Scott Parker was given the FWA Footballer of the year award last season. Parker was introduced straight away into the first team and his presence gave Spurs a moral lift. The team that looked toothless against two Manchester sides went on to make an unbeaten run of 11 games. Parker gelled into the squad nicely and formed a superb partnership with Luca Modric. With an average passing accuracy of 89%, Parker not only does the dirty jobs but helps the team to start an attack from the back. His performance has earned him the captainai??i??s armband for England and deservedly got the Player for England award last year.
4. Jose Enrique (Liverpool) ai??i?? Left Back (A?7M signing from Newcastle)
Jose Enrique improved a lot since he started his career in English soil few years back for Newcastle. Since the day, he wore the Red shirt, except for one-or two odd matches; his performance has been top drawer. He has an excellent recovery pace with a calm, composed control over the ball. Consistency was the only demon that impeded him from becoming a top class defender, which he has improved upon this season. The ai???Bullai??i?? has bagged two assist for himself, most memorable is his contribution in the Merseyside Derby. The problem with Enrique is he doesnai??i??t have any competitor at Liverpool. Hence, gets a more or less guaranteed starting lineup berth.
3. Juan Mata (Chelsea) ai??i?? Winger/Attacking Midfielder (A?23.5M signing from Valencia)

First thing that comes in mind when talking about this Spanish guy is ai???sheer qualityai???. This kid is a complete package. He has given Chelsea a different taste of football. Intelligent in his runs and passes, deft skills, outstanding technical abilities and can score goals too. There were times in this season when Chelsea looked up to Mata to do something spectacular and save their day. There were times in this season when Torres looked good (though very rare) in his presence. He has scored five goals so far and provided 10 assists. Top player, top signing; he is a star and a great asset of the league.
2. Sergio Aguero (Manchester City) ai??i?? Striker (A?38M from Athletico Madrid)
Played ai??i?? 27, Goals -17, Assists -5, Shots -95.
Kun, the other moniker of Cityai??i??s striker has given Premier League enormous delight with some fascinating skills and wonderful goals. The Argentine possesses great power, strength and incredible work ethics. He came on as a substitute in his debut against Swansea City and bragged a brace earning huge applaud from all across English media. On his third start for the club he scored his first hat-trick for City against Wigan Athletic.
Roberto Mancini never wanted Tevez saga to happen. He wanted both the strikers to play, but, even in the absence of Tevez, a colossus figure for City, he looked up to Aguero to fill the void and even surpass the expectations. With his presence, City never felt the absence of Carlos Tevez. Even when he is not scoring, he is constantly involved in the game. Discipline is one aspect, which makes him attractive to watch.
1.Ai??Demba Ba (Newcastle United) ai??i?? Striker (Free transfer from West Ham)
His deal has to be the bargain of the season. With 16 goals and one assist, he is currently the third best striker in England behind Robin Van Persie and Wayne Rooney. Aguero might have a better record than him, but isnai??i??t it expected from a A?38M striker?
Newcastle doesnai??i??t have a class midfield line up like City or Manchester United that can provide enough support to their strikers. Neither have they possessed a world-class customer like David Silva or Nani in their ranks who makes the job easy for the target man. Hence, Baai??i??s impact for the Toon bears a different gravity. The Senegalese striker has notched up two hat-tricks this season, but more than goals it is his sheer presence that has lifted the mood to a different level.
There are other notable candidates who could easily claim their place in the top ten. The likes of Adebayor, Friedel, Graham, Shane Long, Pogrebnyak, De Gea, Phil Jones, and Craig Bellamy have done reasonably well in the Premier League but mostly in bits and pieces.
