Derby Dai??i??Italia or the Derby of Italy involves two of the most successful teams in Italy ai??i?? Juventus and Internazionale. Over the years this intense encounter has seen number of controversies and one such controversy came in 1960/61 season with Juventus etching out a 9-1 record win. On 16th April, 1961, Juventus hosted Inter in what was effectively a title decider. The stadium was overcrowded and a pitch invasion was sparked off as Inter hit the goal-post in second half. Inter was awarded a 2-0 victory initially, but the decision was overturned later as Juventus won their appeal for a replay. Nerazzuri president Angelo Moratti bitterly complained about the fact that Umberto Agnelli, a FIGC official was also a prominent member of Juventus.
When the teams met for the replay on 10th June, Juventus had already sewed up the league title. As a mark of protest Inter fielded their youth team as Juventus ran out 9-1 winners. Juventus legend Omar Sivori scored 6 goals, which incidentally is still a Serie A record for the most number of goals in a single match. Sandro Mazzola, who would later become an Inter legend, made his Serie A debut in this match while Another Juventus legend, Giampiero Boniperti would later retire following the controversial events of this match.
