Usually a whole host of big names would be linked with such a high-profile job however, in this case there seems to be a certain degree of certainty that Harry Redknapp will be the man at the helm of the national teamai??i??s affairs, the only question remains is whether it will be before or after Euro 2012.

Outdated Tactics
Things havenai??i??t changed much in the decades gone by. Far too much emphasis is placed on the man-management style of the manager; rather than his tactics. In the Euro Cup 04 opener, Sven Goran Eriksson chose to field 3 attacking midfielders; Paul Scholes, Frank Lampard and Steven Gerrard in the midfield four, but his failings are usually attributed to his undemonstrative nature. The only goal of the game came from a set-piece and the hard work and determination from the likes of Phil Jones, James Milner and Scott Parker carried them over the line.
Harry for England
The media campaign to get Harry Redknapp appointed the next manager is keeping in tune with the FAai??i??s history of bringing in a manager to counter the previous managerai??i??s personality traits. Hence approachable Harry would be the English FAai??i??s logical successor to authoritarian Capello. No doubt he is fantastic manager who the players enjoy playing for, however, his biggest attribute is that he is a ai???wheeler and dealerai??i?? and that strength will be rendered impotent.Ai?? Long Term Plan Needed
What England are in dire need of is a manager to help them rebuild the entire youth structure. Spain similarly focused their attention on the coaching policy, ensuring that the coaches were adept at instilling a certain philosophy in young players at training centers around the country; a move which took almost two decades before it finally paid off. Young players in England are trained to get the ball forward as quickly as possible, producing players who are not comfortable in possession. Not only is there a complete absence of a structured coaching philosophy; the number of coaches in England is also significantly lower. There are just over 1,000 coaches in England holding the UEFA A and UEFA Pro licenses while 15,000 in Spain.
Gareth Southgate has recently been appointed head of Elite Development at the FA, to implement a 25 point plan to improve coaching and youth development in England. Now a manager must be chosen who is not only an astute tactician but also capable of effectively assisting Southgate in overhauling the English youth setup. Guus Hiddink was one name mentioned but the newly appointed Anzhi manager is now beyond the FAai??i??s grasp.
